My husband and I didn’t have dogs growing up. We wanted them, sure…I even went so far as to making a “Why Tracy and Marc [my brother] should have a dog..” Made with poster board, and Crayola scented markets. Instead of a dog, for my birthday I got a parakeet with violent tendencies who you had to feed with a glove on. A few Christmases later I got a Beta fish who I named Santa, and who I wished would bite the dust on an almost daily basis. Skip to age fourteen where I found a calico kitten and convinced my parents we should keep her; she turned into the worlds largest and meanest cat. So yes, I had pets, but they were all assholes and they weren’t dogs.

I love dogs, and I think it’s safe to say I like them more than most people. I wanted our daughter to grow up with tons of animals and so when she was five months we adopted Bailey our Bernese Mountain dog/Collie mix. He’s sort of a dud, but he’s huge and great with our daughter. She can pull his ears, poke his eyeballs, sit on him and grab his teeth and he takes it like a pro. We wanted to get him a friend so two days ago we did it, and we adopted Logan a nine week old German Shepherd puppy.

We are insane.

Leave it to us to have a baby, two puppies, and a new house that needs to be unpacked. I kind of love the chaos of it though, and I’ve accepted that the WHITE kitchen floor will have muddy puppy paws on it forever. He’s a good puppy, shy, and he gets along with the cat better. The baby loves him but she loves anything with four legs and an abundance of fur.
