Does anybody else get excited for a big night with snacks and the Fam to watch the annual Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards? Should I be embarrassed to say that I do?
This is only our third year and all 4 of us, ages 9, 13, 40 & 42, got our share of fun and giggles for the third year in a row. Although not quite as funny to me as the previous two hosts, Justin Timberlake & Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson did a great job hosting and the kids thoroughly enjoyed seeing him dressed as Miley Cyrus after agreeing to engage in whatever activity the kid’s voted on.

Chris Brown just removed himself and his song for consideration for a Kid’s Choice Award on Nickelodeon and I find myself liking him a whole lot more than I like the execs at Nickelodeon right now. My 8-year old lives and dies by what Nickelodeon tells him and yes, perhaps I should be doing some better parenting instead of letting him watch so much television but for some stupid reason I had begun to trust the network that brought us Blue’s Clues and Sponge Bob and Harrison Ford getting slimed. My bad. Even when a petition was flying all over the Internet to remove Chris Brown from contention Nickelodeon hung tight with their choice and it took the 19-year old with two felony charges pending to make the right decision. Nice. Listen, Nick Execs, if you want me to keep buying all your Sponge Bob crap you might want to think twice before not listening to me and my fellow parents. We still control the remote. We’ve got options. Those goofy twins who live in the hotel on the Disney Channel are looking a lot less annoying right now. You know what else I might do? I might give my kid A BOOK! Ha! Explain that to your advertisers.

Despite the pretty serious allegation that celebrity Chris Brown beat the living daylights out his equally famous girlfriend, Rhianna, recently, Nickelodeon, the venerable children’s network is standing behind its decision to keep Mr. Brown on the slate for the upcoming “Kid’s Choice” awards.
What Nickelodeon should be standing behind is a very tall, very sturdy, brick wall. The better to beat our heads against when we attempt to get the powers that be to understand why this is a very poor choice indeed.
