It is now coming out that Shawn Hornbeck may have been the one to push/pull little Ben Ownby into the white truck Devlin was driving, making him an accomplice to the crime (although prosecutors say that charges won’t be pressed).
Man, oh, man, this is one fucked up kid. I’m not saying it’s his fault, but man, he’s got to have some major issues! (Like, duh!)
From KMOV TV:
Law enforcement sources tell News 4 that Hornbeck was forced to help grab Ownby, and even push the boy to the floorboard of the white Nissan truck. We’ve also learned that Ben was held with a gun and duct tape.
Pediatric psychiatrist Dr. Robin Park says that Devlin would have had to desensitize and brainwash the Shawn for months to get him to do something so clearly wrong.
Police speculate that in Devlin’s eyes, Shawn, at age 15, was getting too old.
Devlin may have struck a deal with Shawn to help get a new victim. This did not surprise the expert.
Hornbeck’s family attorney says that Shawn will in no way be prosecuted for his involvement in the crime. The experts feel sympathy for a child who would go to such lengths.
I think there’s going to me a lot more shocking details to come. We don’t even know the half of it.

Parents in Maine reportedly kidnapped their 19 year old adult daughter, bound and gagged her; in a kidnapping attempt aimed at forcing her into a late term abortion. This is really, really going to piss off the pro-choice and pro-life advocates. This is NO-choice and “baby murder” rolled all into one. How many people can you possibly offend at once??
My guess is that these parent’s won’t be getting many holiday cards this year.
From Reuters:
BOSTON (Reuters) - Police charged a Maine couple on Monday of kidnapping their pregnant 19-year-old daughter, who was bound with rope and duct tape and bundled into her parents’ car to force her to have an emergency abortion.
Nicholas Kampf, 54, and his wife, Lola, 53, were arrested on Friday in a New Hampshire parking lot after their daughter Katelyn escaped by persuading her parents to untie her so she could use a Kmart bathroom.
A court affidavit said her parents chased her out into the yard after an altercation, grabbed and tied her hands and feet together. Her father then gagged her and carried her to their Lexus and they drove toward New Hampshire.
“The case facts are somewhat bizarre,” aid Mark Dion of Maine’s Cumberland County Police Department, which is involved in the investigation. “It is a bit of a shock.”
He said the Kampfs, who were arraigned in New Hampshire’s Salem District Court on Monday on kidnapping charges and held on bail of $100,000 each, appeared to have been angry that their daughter was pregnant by a man who is now in jail.
UPDATE: Jay over at Parents Behaving Badly found another disturbing nugget that wasn’t in the original story. Apparently the mother “was pretty irate at the fact that the child’s father was black, and she had made a number of disparaging remarks about that”, which may have been their motivation for the kidnapping. What a couple of fine individuals.

On August 27, Melinda Duckett told police that on her way to bed she went in to check on her 2 year old son — when she entered his room, she found him gone and the screen cut on the window above his crib. The fate of the boy is still unknown.
On September 7, Ms. Duckett agreed to a phone interview with CNN’s Nancy Grace, presumably under the pretext that she would be allowed to tell her story, and hopefully someone, somewhere, would be able to shed some light on the case. What Duckett was certainly not told was that she instead was going to have her feet held to the fire on Grace’s virtual witness stand. Grace has yet to wake up from her fog and realize she’s a TV commentator, and no longer a prosecutor. Grace grilled this mother on her whereabouts at the time of her son’s disappearance, becoming belligerent, pounding her hand on the desk, all but straight out accusing Duckett. Shortly after the interview, Duckett took a shotgun and blew her brains out. Duckett’s family is claiming that Melinda was already “pushed to the brink” and that the media gave her the final shove. The most disgusting part of the story? They still ran the interview hours after learning about Duckett’s death.
I’ll admit that I’m entertained by Nancy Grace from time to time, just as it’s entertaining to watch a deranged person yell and dance in the middle of the street. But she has crossed the line here. I hope the Ducketts sue her and CNN for every penny they are worth. There’s certainly a legal precedent. Am I overreacting? Watch the video and judge for yourself:
