Nadya Suleman Writes A Book & Gets A Reality Show…Hooo Boy!
I had almost forgotten about the once-infamous “Octomom”, i.e. Nadya Suleman. Then I got this article via Google Alert. We all knew it was coming-it was only a question of when. When is the reality show coming to a network near you????
Nadya Suleman, the mother of octuplets born Jan. 26, has inked a deal with the British production company Eyeworks, which plans to begin filming a reality TV series based on the controversial single mother and her 14 children.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m a little burnt-out on the big-family-I-Gave-Birth-To-A-Million-Kids shows. It’s losing its appeal, its freshness, its ability to cause morbid fascination. At least for me.
I can’t imagine this going well. I can imagine crazy train wreck. I see it going the way of another notoriously infamous family of 10. The show itself won’t be a 24-7 account of their lives, but documenting only special events such as birthdays. They aren’t looking to be the next Jon and Kate, as Suleman points out: “It’s boring”. Uh yeah.
“Nadya knows she has to do something,” says Czech. “But she doesn’t want the constant filming because she feels that would be taking advantage of her kids. She’s trying to find the middle ground and feels this approach will work best.”
Nadya knows she has to do something? She doesn’t have to do anything. Although, she does have to make money and doing a reality show is the quickest route, I guess.
No constant filming because that would be taking advantage of her kids? Isn’t that already happening? Isn’t she already using her kids advantageously?
I have to wonder, though, how much of it is going to be true. She’s supposed to talk about how she was raised and about the donor dad during the course of the show, among other topics. How many different stories were (are) out there bouncing around the internets on these subjects coming from Suleman’s own mouth?
And then, there’s the book deal. She has enlisted a ghostwriter, the same one who did Christopher Ciccone’s (Madonna’s brother) autobiography. Should this be catorgorized as ‘fiction’?

I did not think that there could be another show I would avoid with such venom as I do Jon & Kate. For Nadya to call Kate “boring” is the funniest thing. I am probably going to have to increase my meds if the comment board here becomes constantly stuffed with JK8 AND Octo remarks.

Nadya strikes me as a very immature woman. I think her comment about J&K+8 being boring was to distance herself from the current controversey. As in, “I want to have a show, too . . . but not a boring show that exploits my kids. Mine will be different!”
Righhhht.

I’d like to think that Americans are above watching and giving this woman anymore money than she deserves, but sadly, I know people won’t be able to help themselves.
She’s such an asshole.

I think there should be a law (and I’m surprised there isn’t already) stating that children can not be put on camera, since they have no ability to object. Now, there may be (due to Child Actor Rights laws) something stating the money will go to the kids in a trutst. But the worst, most heinous part is that these kids will never know what it is to have a normal life.
Nadya Suleman is taking her babies’ childhoods away for her own sick, twisted want of fame and money.
But this seems to be a trend, much like those little dogs trendily carted around in tote bags: Children as entertainment. Who needs dancing monkeys and circus freak shows? Just have a batch of children and turn on the cameras! Whoopeee… isn’t fun?
It’s sick.

How about acting sane?
That would definitely be defined as “news” no?

Its hard to act sane when your head is up your ass.

I agree with Michelle.
You know what I would love to see, seriously? I think one of the major networks should host a reality show about a family that does things well. Whether or not there are multiple kids, although that might help for ratings, find a family that is safe, effective, nonviolent, and manages to both keep their kids well behaved and keep anger out of their house. There are SO many families like that and they deserve a pat on the back for how well they manage their houses too — let’s stop throwing money at people who have more kids than they can reasonably take care of on their own, and throw money instead at people who are responsible enough to only have as many as they can afford, financially and in terms of patience too!

But there’s no FUN in normal, sane people, you know.
