Live blogging the Jon & Kate season premiere
I had so much fun live blogging the Jon & Kate Season 4 finale that I thought I would do it again and add my commentary to the much anticipated Season 5 premiere when JON AND KATE FACE EACH OTHER FOR THE FIRST TIME! Dun-dun-DUNNNN! Although I have a feeling Kate has had a teensy chat with Jon about his latest antics before tonight’s episode was filmed.
7:59: OK, on the couch, remote in hand, glass of wine by my side (beer seemed inappropriate for a guy settling in to watch Jon and Kate)
8:01: Turning Five AND THE FUTURE…
8:02: Didn’t sign up for the public scrutiny, Jon? What did you expect being on TV?
8:03: Uh, oh, Kate’s mad…
8:04: Is it just me, or does Jon seem like he’s had a drink or two?
8:05: I’ve got a solution — don’t be on TV and don’t go on national book tours.
8:06: Kate: “I have a lot of anger.” And you wouldn’t like Kate when she’s angry.
8:07: The new set is certainly an, uh, improvement — it looks so, uh, different.
8:12: Year long planning for a birthday party? That’s about 51.5 weeks longer than we spend.
8:14: Sorry, hard to feel sorry for Kate having to deal with Jon’s weekend off since presumably she has the same off camera help that he has.
8:15: Looks like the kids have developed the same vocabulary my 6-year-old has (who is currently chanting “pooper weiner” as I type)
8:16: Creepy for the kids to say “paparazzi”, not creepy to expose your kids to them in the first place.
8:18: Even the kids keep trying to keep Kate away from them.
8:23: Well there, Kate just validated all the haters.
8:24: Kate: “It’s not fine.” But yet I’ll still keep participating in the show.
8:25: Their kids’ lives have become a business. Nice!
8:26: You have to realize that yes, you may be called your babysitters name, but you have to do what you can to schedule your spray tan.
8:30: If there’s even a 50/50 ratio for commercials/show this past half hour I would be shocked.
8:32: Junkly cunkly? WTF?
8:33: By the way, Kate, it’s actually acceptable to use brown sacks for the goody bags instead of investing/assembling “gift boxes”.
8:34: Look at how Kate has to do everything by herself….
8:35: “We’ll have 4 pinatas we need to line up there.” And I mean “line up” — you had better make sure they are perfectly even.
8:36: 6 minutes, then another commercial!
8:40: These poor parents, go to one birthday party, buy 6 presents!
8:43: Awkward!
8:45: Guests, please ignore the annoying paparazzi following our every move! But please embrace the TLC cameras following our every move, as they pay us.
8:51: Hi magician man, can you make Jon disappear?
8:53: Produce a real rabbit or FEEL THE WRATH OF KATE.
8:54: Wow, that rabbit gets more abuse than Jon.
8:58: OK, staff, now clean up!
9:00: The other 3 are dead to me!
9:01: Kate’s hair has come a long way in 5 years.
9:07: Kate’s here every minute that doesn’t require her to be away. Which is 6 days out of the month.
9:09: It’s not just because you’re parents of multiples, Kate.
9:12: I’m sure there are many thinking there is irony in Kate insisting everything she does is in her kids’ best interest.
9:13: Aaaand, that’s it until next week. Thanks for joining me for the 30 minute premiere crammed into over an hour.

Beth: What you dont seem aware of is that there WAS family and many offers and donations from Kate’s father’s congregation which Kate, no doubt because it didnt fit into her grand plan, turned down because she only wanted “things that matched”.
The ensuing rift, most believe, is why Kate is estranged from her family.
Also, I, for one, do not agree with your summation of Aunt Jodi as “sour-graping”. Jodi was the one person who was there for the children and kept them in a loving, stable environment when Kate and Jon needed to traipse here and there in order to share with the world how they manage. She has more than shown her love and concern for the children and if she and Kevin are now speaking out about the sham that is the show and Kate and Jon Gosselin, I say, good for them.

When I saw the show on Monday night I was so upset…i followed this family it felt as if a family of mines was acting out on national television…I didn’t think that is was this serious because i don’t pay attention to tabloids…yall need to get it together pray and ask God for guidance and don’t be getting advice from people that don’t know anything, yall need to humble yourselves for the children…Did you guy’s try going to counseling? I think it would be wise…just think about the children they are beautiful…show the world that all things a possible through Christ and if yall want things to work out God will work it out for u guys…be encouraged stick together for the children….God bless and i hope that i am able to see a better Jon and Kate plus 8…another thing you guy’s were blessed i did IVF and i had for eggs three feel out one stuck for five months and he still didn’t make it. Don’t take things for granted pull together and be a happy family ,even if you two are no longer together be loving to one another…..
sincerely a sad fan…Tamika

I think if this world didn’t have crazy women who talk badly on people they dont know and feed into the crazy tabloid rumors. Then this world would be a peaceful one. As I stood in line at the grocery store, a woman flipped through US Weekly. Her husband made a good point. He said, “Men dont look at that crap but women seem to. They love to put down others and feed into this bullshit. Thats the only reason tabloids keep going is because of caddy women who believe that garbage”
Really they are human beings, just like every single one of us. People make mistakes but you can’t judge unless you are in their shoes. Some of you should be ashamed of you for writing what you have written. Really?? Get a life and stop griping over what you didn’t have and what they do have. Really!! You must have a dark soul!

After watching the show on Monday night Kate said she was doing her job, I realized that Kate actually thinks that running around doing interviews, book signings writing books is her calling in life(as she states) her job. Giving birth to 8 children is her JOB!!!! not running all over hell and creation. Your JOB my dear is staying at home with your children and raising them. Teaching them right from wrong, good from bad. How to learn to use the potty that you hated so much. Teach them manners and their prayers at night. You think training them to act like robots is the way it should be. Teaching and training are 2 different things. Spending time with them, playing games, reading books to them. Every field trip where there were things that could get the kids clothes messed up, or for that matter you might get something on your clothes you made sure that you sat in the background and watched. No interaction on your part. That’s your job!!! Giving them their baths instead of Jon all the time, that’s your JOB!!!!! The BS about you feeding them organic foods- the stuff you take out of a cans or bags? Is that organic? We never saw you really do much in the kitchen, stand there with your hands crossed at the wrist. That’s not your job… Every meal they ate came off of paper plates. That is the height of lasiness to me. You have a dish washer but the kids eat off of paper plates!!! You can’t be that lazy but then again maybe you can. And your always so exhausted… from what? You never did anything!! Jon bathed and dressed the kids, someone folded your clothes, someone else did the ironing, and then someone else again but all the clothes away. THAT’S BEING A MOTHER!!!!you didn’t do any of those things. Your traveled, went to the spa, the hair dresser and nail shop. BTW, your hair looks foolish!!! On top of all that you picked at your husband constantly, no matter what he did it was never right, sitting on the sofa during interviews so many times you said to Jon don’t interrupt me. But yet everytime the man opened his mouth you interupted him. Every time! every time!!! I thought maybe just once you would let the man finish a statement but you never did, not one time did you. Then ridicule him. Oh Jon stop scratching, stop playing with you hair stop doing doing doing……..
And you were just doing your JOB.

Ok… I have my opinions…I also have 4 kids…
4 doesn’t compare to 8, but I know how stressful it CAN be..not that it IS all the time. There are times, when I go into my room, shut the door, go into my bathroom, shut the door, and turn on the exhaust fan…just to stop the crying and whinning for ONE minute.
But what got me about the show…Knowing that Kate is hardly there most of the time..(admitted to on the show), At the very begining, when she was eating her salad and talking about how poor miss Kate had to take the kids shopping all on her own…Poor Fraking Baby!
There are moms at there that do EVERYTHING by themselves. I know my husband works a 80+ hr work week, I take my 4 kids, 7,4,2,& 3 months everywhere with me…I don’t have family or friends or sitters, I can’t afford to have ‘help’ or someone to watch thekids while I run down to the store. Has she ever had to take all of her children with her to gas station and had to take all the kids in with her, just to spend 5 secs paying for gas..I highly doubt it…but oh poor Kate..is so worn out and stressed. She has to doeverything.
If she has to do everything that comes with being a mom..how the heck is she able to globe trott and take vacations?
Anyway… when she was sitting at the table..the kids came running up and were trying to tell her something..she shoed them away with out even hearing what they were saying and then she turns back to the camaera and gave that snarled looked..like, “God..can you believe that? How dare they be kids and need their mother’s attention.” It was a look of total discust. I almost changed the chanel.
Also, when they were showing about them getting ready for Oprah…She went shopping for the kids, she went shopping for her. She bought herself way more then enough clothes for 1 (One) 20 min interview! But, did anyone see Jon get any new clothes?
I am a divorced mother. When my ex and I were in the middle of our separation…it was very tense at gatherings. That’s just the way it is. We would also arrive in different cars…granted mine wasn’t an economy sized van and his wasn’t a 2 door sports car…(seriously…you have a sports car and have 8 kids?)
But we have to realize too, that TLC is making it more dramatic then it my really be…for RATINGS!!!!!!
The more they play into the rumors and tabliots…there more people are going to watch the show…the higher the RATINGS!!!!
Although I feel that Jon was wrong if in fact he has been cheating on Kate, and no matter how she treated him, no body deserves that. However, I feel that she is wrong because she has this ‘high and mighty’ complex.
I am OCD about things with my kids too though. I don’t like them to get dirty and all, but I don’t make them miss out on anything because of it and I don’t make my husband do everything. In fact, because my husband works from 4am-7,8pm and I stay at home with the kids…I feel guilty for asking him to do anything.lol
It’s whatever, really…
To each his own. My only thing is..don’t put yourself, your family, and your kids out there like that, and then get pissed when people disagree with your tactics and choices..
Kate contradicts herself too often.

I just came to the conclussion that maybe this new episode was nothing more then a setup by TLC. Let the viewing public think that they are having martial problems, play it up big and watch as they revolve back into the so-called happy couple they once were. There so happy in season 4 how did they go to being so disfunctional between 4 and 5. There was no paparazzi now all of a sudden they are everywhere,
there were no tales of cheating, no tales of Kate cheating. Just Kate being a bit_ch to Jon. All of sudden interviews and talk shows to do, more to push her books. And where is Beth Carson in all of this? I thought she helped write one of the books… Doesn’t she get credit for her part in it? Or is Kate so greedy she has excluded Beth from apprearances? I for one do not believe all that is being pushed around on the networks. Like they say- something doesn’t smell very good.

I cannot believe I missed your live blog session Prescott of the season opener! What a great idea!
I don’t watch much J and K plus 8 these days. Too much controversy going on and I want to see the show when it is a Mom and Dad taking care of their kids. Now it seems like a soap opera with the saga that is being interwined into the show. The saddest part seems to be that they had their most viewers ever this past Monday which certainly is surprising given the amount of venom that is being spewed and has been spewed for many many years. You would think with all the people complaining about J and K that they would simply turn off the t.v. and give them no mention.
Well, if you ever do another live blog, I will get all the cyber snacks ready.
Good to be back on the site. It looks fantastic! Great job Jessica and Prescott! Be back soon.

Are you referring to the venom that is “spewed” out of Kate’s mouth towards Jon? I agree! Many many years of doing that has finally caught up with her, he is so done with her…too bad the ones that will suffer the most will be the children. I don’t think turning off the tv is really a solution, I think canceling the show would be a btter solution…… but when there are milions and millions and dollars to be made, the show must go on!!! No matter who gets hurt in the process, sadly.

I don’t think it’s sad at all that Monday night’s premier was watched by so many millions. The way I see it, the more people who are aware of what America’s Favorite Family really is all about, the quicker their scam will come to an end.

I tend to agree with you Lauren. We all realize that the show should end and in order to do that, ratings need to go down because we also know that TLC has no conscience and is simply a business out to make as much money as possible.
All of that said tho, I agree that the REAL Kate Gosselin, in all of her glory, needs to be something every, single one of those viewers witnessed on Monday night as well as seeing Jon Gosselin, downtrodden and apparently beaten.
Kate, in my opinion, didnt come across as the poor, sad, “done to” wife on Monday night. Instead she came across as manipulating and shrewish and trying to make sure that everyone knows, as always, it’s ALL Jon’s fault.
If her intent was to gain support and sympathy, I think she missed the boat.

I also agree with you Lauren. There are a lot of people out there who have either never watched Jon and Kate plus Eight or maybe only caught a couple of episodes. I don’t have a single friend or family member who watch the show religiously. Having said that, I think that those people tuned in on Monday night to see what all the hoopla is about. I didn’t watch it, but from what is being written about it, I think it is a good thing that more people are becoming aware of the situation and are becomming just as outraged as we have been for a very long time.

You know, also the only venom that’s been spewing for many, many years was started by the people in the Gosselin’s own hometown. The very people who reached out to help time and time again, only to be asked for more and better “donations.” When they started their series in 2007, the general public became aware of what the Gosselin couple was up to. That’s two years. Not many, many. LOL
Sounds totally like something Kate would say.
“Cause you’d have to change a hundred kids!”
“I’ve already told you 17 times!”

I think that Kate needs to remember the trailer she came from. Jon needs to rememeber that he’s really bolding. I hate them all. They need to have everything taken away from them and given to others in need.

Sandra: While many of us here on this blog would agree that Jon and Kate are despicable and poor excuses for parents, hate is a pretty strong word, especially about someone you dont know personally.

I believe Ms Eileen O’Neill, President of TLC, must have ice water running through her veins. She says it is hard to pull out of something “when the numbers are high.” She is very proud of herself for what she has done for TLC. She doesn’t care whose little fingers she steps on in her climb up the career ladder. She is truly despicable.
