Did You Get Slimed This Weekend?

Posted April 1, 2009 at 10:33 am by Cin

Does anybody else get excited for a big night with snacks and the Fam to watch the annual Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards?  Should I be embarrassed to say that I do?

This is only our third year and all 4 of us, ages 9, 13, 40 & 42, got our share of fun and giggles for the third year in a row.  Although not quite as funny to me as the previous two hosts, Justin Timberlake & Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson did a great job hosting and the kids thoroughly enjoyed seeing him dressed as Miley Cyrus after agreeing to engage in whatever activity the kid’s voted on.

The awards held a few surprises for me, as well as its intended audience, my kids. :-)  The Twilight Series beat out both Diary of a Wimpy Kid and the Harry Potter Series for best book, and  Madagascar 3 beat out Bolt and Wall-E for best movie.  Not so surprising as Beyonce’s prize for “Single Ladies” as best song was her competition of Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop the Music” and Katie Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl”.  A fun surprise was “I Carly” beating out “Hannah Montana” and “Suite Life” for best TV show.  Daughter9 was tickled pink by that one!

No surprise in “High School Musical 3″ nabbing the best movie award right?  Or Wil Smith favorite actor and Jonas Brothers as best musical group.  David Archuleta and Paula Abdul made an awkward acceptance for “American Idol” as best reality show, and although I agreed with the choice of GUITAR HERO WORLD TOUR as best video game, my kids were like, “Hello! Mario Kart Wii! Ever heard of it!?”  (they get their sarcasm from their Dad.)

My kids enjoyed picking their favorite stars out of the audience and seeing who was sitting with whom.  Zac Efron & Vanessa Hudgens were pretty lovey dovey in their seats, but Vanessa left Zac in the dust and grabbed hands with Ashley Tisdale when it was their time to go to the podium and accept their award.  My daughter found the Pussy Cat Dolls performance to be a little “flashy” while Hubs and teenage son found it “spot on”.  They were less impressed by the Jonas Brothers performance which left my daughter beaming.  Will Ferrell doing the super slime slide was a highlight for me as well as Sandra Bullock and Hugh Jackman’s slime attack.  The lowlight had to be Miley crying, “I really thought I was going to lose” when she won for favorite female singer. It was reaaaaaally fake and cheezy.

If any of that sounds the least bit delightful to you, I bet you can still catch it replaying for at least a week, but I am not sure how much fun it would be without excited kids to watch with.

How funny you mentioned this! We’ve never seen the Kids’ Choice Awards before.
We were watching cartoons all day, and finally, the kids decided to play in their rooms, right as this came on.
Dh and I were cuddled in a chair and didn’t bother to change the channel, so we watched it. The kids came in after a little while.

Dh and I were so excited when iCarly won! “Yay! Carly! Eeeee!”
Did you see Miley’s face when Hannah montana didn’t win?

Wasn’t too pleased when Jack Black told the Rock that he was “hosting the CRAP out of this show!”

And Pussycat Dolls!? Maybe I’m a prude, but I don’t approve of them, their clothes, their dancing, their lyrics. Ugh!
