Live blogging the Jon & Kate Season Finale: Part 1

Posted March 23, 2009 at 8:00 pm by Prescott

Given all the buzz surrounding tonight’s Jon & Kate finale, I thought I would check it out for myself and give my 2 cents in real time. Obviously the below will contain spoilers, so don’t bother if you’re going to watch the episode later. First up, a trip to the Harlem Globetrotters.

8:00: Sigh, the trials and tribulations when Oprah comes calling. What’s a mom to do?

8:02: What’s the difference between a “helper” and a “nanny”?

8:03: The kids fighting over dog food sure makes me want another kid.

8:04: So, bikinis out for the older girls, OK for the preschoolers. Uh…

8:05: Kate’s reverse mullet and spray tan looks fabulous tonight.

8:06: Kate takes a compliment and makes Jon feel like shit about it.

8:10: Invited to the Oprah show — AGAIN! And Kate can’t go to Chicago! The horrors!

8:11: I’m sure Kate’s disappointment at not going to Chicago has nothing to do with Oprah putting guests up at the Four Seasons.

8:12: I bet Jon doesn’t get his hair cut at the kids’ place any more.

8:13: Micromanaging hair — holy cow.

8:17: Right, the Harlem Globetrotters are just “fans” and had no interest in getting themselves mentioned on the show 50 times.

8:18: The Harlem Globetrotters love J&K so much they had to give them court side seats.

8:19: My 10-year-old: “How’d they get to sit so close?” Me: “The benefits of whoring yourself and family out, son.” OK, I didn’t really say that. But I thought it.

8:20: Hmm, I’m starting to wonder if these kids are going to grow up with a strange sense of entitlement…

8:21: All those empty seats in the auditorium provides further clues to this “impromptu” invite.

8:24: Heaven help any of the girls’ future dates that merely get them tickets to an event. “What, NO MEET AND GREET? Humph…”

8:25: Another day, another photo op.

8:26: MORE STUFF! That’s why they needed the bigger house.

8:27: Oh, the little kid spinning the ball on her finger was so fake.

8:28: I think there was some sort of insight to be gleaned by Jon’s comment about Kate’s “stiff fingers.” Maybe that’s the only thing around there that’s stiff these days.

Wow, what happened to the hard working all American family? They (the parents) have changed so much! It’s very sad to me to watch this show now. They (the parents) are tanned, don’t hold real jobs anymore, they look fit and relaxed, and seem to be leaving the kids a real lot. They are no longer the average American family, which is where all of their charm was found! Too bad! :(

I might owe a previous commenter for that.

OK…that did it. Ive been reading Prescott’s updates and being an older version of a younger female, I have a “holding” it problem and his comments are funnier than hell.

I read the above post and lost it.

(you women out there will surely understand)

They’re just glossing over everything. Jon: “I can’t be “Jon” anymore, I have to be “Jon and Kate.” Uh, cause that’s your life, er, your job, now. Did you forget about getting up every morning and driving to a real job? You poor guy. If you aren’t feeling sick, well, I’m feeling sick for you

And you’re poor, frail mother, Jon. Her husband couldn’t stay home and care for her? She needed to pull a father of eight away from his family (and his neurotic wife) to take care of her? Is the whole family brain-damaged? There are nurses who will come to your house. You don’t need to take your son away from his HUGE family, the family that has been advertised as being so over-sized, so overwhelming, a family that your son, Jon, cannot support.

Kate made her family look bad; just wait until Jon’s mom sees this episode. She looks like an absolute bitch. Imagine demanding that he come and take care of her “foot” and leave his eight little ill-behaved children, two un-trained dogs, and a wife who can’t wait to get on the next plane out of there and who can’t stand to get off the plane and go home.

TLC just made bigger fools of Jon and Kate than they
have done on their own. If that is possible.

Kate said she loves what she is doing! Well, why doesn’t she extend herself a little. Like actually smile, actually answer REAL questions that her “fans” ask, without pre-qualifying the questions.

Jon, don’t worry. Any judge anywhere will give you the kids, if that is what you want. But then, I guess you would have to actually get a job, so maybe you would rather Kate get custody. Then you could go back to work, smile every day, and be JUST JON. No longer, Jon and Kate Plus 8. That is what you said is bothering you, isn’t it?

I hope it wasn’t a comment from the mominatrix …that would just be wrong!

Reading that very provocative point, I immediately flashed on to where the future “Kardashian Girls” are likely to come from.

Wow, I can not believe how all of you think you have the right to bash Jon & Kate. How many of you would turn down the money as it began to increase? If you don’t agree with their lives, just TURN OFF THE T.V.

I wouldn’t have even made it to the “increasing money” stage.
I don’t sell my childrens’ lives to anyone, for anything……….

I think you need only to look at other families of sextuplets, the Dillys for example. They allowed the cameras in once a year but, for the most part, maintained their privacy and the privacy of their kids. I used to enjoy an occasional visit with the family with 18 kids but now they have gone the way of the Gosselins. What’s wrong with people anyway!

OK, if I were Allstate, I would ask for a refund. That had to be the worst attempt at product placement I’ve ever seen. Jon, you have to act somewhat excited about the product you’re trying to shill.

You’re right Hillary - It was almost painful to watch Jon attempt to get the words out of his mouth. How obvious that he didn’t want to do it. I wonder if Kate gives her promoters a wish list of what she wants. Such as - “We could use some free insurance.” Go see who will give it to us, and in turn we will promote their product.

I took my two boys to see the Harlem Globetrotters in NJ when they were young. They would have loved to go out on the court with the players.
Unfortunately, we weren’t blessed enough to have connections. I wonder why both of the twins weren’t called to participate. That was truly strange. Favoritism rears its ugly head again.

“I wonder why both of the twins weren’t called to participate. That was truly strange. Favoritism rears its ugly head again.” Valerie writes.

I would have to say in Maddy’s defense or Cara’s, that remember Cara is the “athletic one”, I could see where Maddy wouldn’t want to take part in anything like that. She’s like her mother, but she hasen’t gotten to the point where she enjoys that kind of attention. I think she probably refused..

I think Maddie probably said she didn’t want to do anything out on the floor, just knowing her obstinate personality. But,I think she did feel a little bit jealous of Cara, though.

18. Valerie

March 26, 2009 @ 2:44 pm

I disagree Cathy. I think that Mady seeks more attention than Cara.
The fact that Cara is more atheletic really had nothing to do with it. Mady just looked really sad and left out.

Better yet - none of the Gosselin children should have been chosen.

What can I say TLC … you got me … all the hype hinting at a separation and the only thing Kate is throwing out of the house is the SET? OH YES INDEEDY THAT IS WHAT WE NEED … A NEW SET !!! The look of homey is so uncouth! “We” need a new “culturized” set.

Next season sophisticated viewers will observe Gossie and Hairrett seated in tastefully upholstered Queen Ann wing chairs within their library. Behind the peaceful couple will be a bookcase full with their collection of great literary classics. Gossie will be partaking in his new found hobby of pipe smoking and reading the Wall Street Journal because it is a much more dignified habit than other, uh .. hmm … shall we say …. savory activities! Hairrett will look up from her (all hers) first edition copy of “Great Expectations” (she thinks it’s a “HOW TO” on getting everything you secretly desire!) and states royally (in a dreadful English accent) “ ”WE” would like to present on this episode of MASTERKATE THEATRE” ……

Why the family’s IQ’s will instantly sky rocket ! Where are those MENSA applications?

This show has run its course. I sincerely hope Jon and Kate managed their money well and will be able to continue raising their family in the way they have become accustomed.

I think jon you are acting like baby, you are only 30 yrs old. your not old. kate was too bossy, but why did you not confront her, she was trying to keep everything in order and do her best. I think she was very much overwelmned. You on the other hand are acting like a jerk. you also are letting fame go to your head, instead of thinking of your kids… don’t think your kids will think much of you by leaving kate. no one will want to watch the show anymore, and then it will be all over. get your feet back on the ground. I dout the hailey really loves you, it is all the fame. when the money runs out so will she. kate still you,you are making the biggest mistake of your life. timee will tell you ,but by then it will be too late. having kids is not easy, and 8 is harder. you are just bailing out, you are a loser.

Katie: everything you posted is correct, however, I doubt that Jon or Kate, either one, will be reading what you posted.
