The Jon and Kate Plus Eight Wedding Infomercial, er, Event

Jon and Kate Plus Eight has become nothing but one big infomercial. The couple’s wedding vow renewal was no exception.
This episode, “For Better or Worse”, featured 60 minutes of all the Grand Wailea Resort Hotel and Spa in Hawaii had to offer … from the spa (yes the 4-year-old girls got pedicures), the hair salon, the chapel, the catering services, the lawn overlooking the ocean. TLC could have just shown a video of the premises, and I wouldn’t have had the added annoyance of enduring Jon and Kate. (They did renew their vows, by the way, in between resort glamour shots.)
How dumb do Figure 8 Productions and TLC think we are? There is no one on the planet that believes those two slackers funded the wedding vow renewal, the five-day layover in San Diego, the trip to Legoland, venture to Sesame Place, two-week jaunt to North Carolina, the Gymboree wardrobe the children wear, and the V-Tech system Jon and Kate shilled in a previous episode (which, conveniently, was followed by a commercial for the same product!). I would bet most, if not all, those items are donated or comped in exchange for publicity. You know, all for the purpose of good TV.
I seriously expect that next time the Gosselin kids do an art project, Billy Mays will jump out from behind a tree with Oxiclean for everyone. Because that’s where we’re at with Figure 8, TLC, and the Gosselins.
I miss the days when the show was about a very large family struggling to make ends meet and stay sane. Now it’s about how many freebies they can plug and where then can travel. (All in the name of good TV, of course.) Newsflash, Figure 8: it’s really, REALLY boring to watch them go from location to location. If I wanted to see destinations around the country I’d tune into the Travel Channel.
I’m not completely alone in my thinking. One of my local papers, The Boston Herald, ran an article this week on the greediness of America’s Most Famous Infertile Couple Who Got More Than They Bargained For.
I find myself wishing Jon and Kate would get on that catamaran they chartered in one of the previous 700 wedding-preparatory episodes and sail off into the sunset. For good. Of course, that too would be made into a three-episode “event”.

Patty: You little sleuth you! I dont know how you managed to find out how old Tori is (Facebook maybe?) but no surprise that shes only 17 and is still wet behind the ears.

I have a question? In any of the books or appearances kate has done what is her infertility issue. I went thru that after years of tests, then the shots, then the surgery, then the IVF. They were married for how long after they started their IVF’s of their twins. My Dr. would have never put that many eggs inside of me, he stated ethics or something I don’t remember. Not to say she did it on purpose but did she do it on purpose? I mean she did have the intention of trying to have as many babies at once. I read in another blog of how Kate was readng about that other couple in Iowa, or somewhere in the midwest and they got a free house. Could she be that warped? Personally I think she had this grand scheme from the very beginning and she has pulled it off and now has the F you I did it attitude.

elizabeth, I don’t know too much about infertility issues, but it has been discussed many times on one of the other imperfect parent blogs.
Many of us agree that Kate planned this whole thing.
Sounds about right to me!!!!

Yes, Taylor Swift. There is no reason why any of her kids should be taken out of school at all and especially so early in the school year. I thought the same thing (that they came for Taylor) but then again, they probably will have a private meeting and autograph session with Taylor.
If they are indeed there, it is also probably for some type of taping. The shows are very boring although I did not watch last night episode but I am guessing it was boring. Maybe shooting an episode in New York will be better.
By the way, can’t wait to hear what the ratings were for last night’s show and hopefully they will be low.
