I love Christmas
I love making Christmas cards, giving people thoughtful presents, GETTING thoughtful presents, mulled wine, real Christmas trees [so not going green there..] and spending time with friends and family. I start getting pumped for Christmas in August, and this year I’ve made some changes to our usual festivities.
The first, is that I’m trying only to buy gifts that are local, handmade, or thrifted. My mom is an exception because she’s begging me for a new fancy crock pot, and who am I to say no? Besides m. dukes I’m making excellent progress, and have purchased some wonderful items for my best friend, and well as the kid. Books are always big for me to give, and I’ve found that buying them secondhand on Amazon makes me feel better, and is super duper cheap. I’m also making a bunch of gifts, and putting my un-crafty skills to the test.
I think everyone should do this.
I was reading a meetup board update, and some ladies were getting together to meet outside Walmart at 4am to shop for plastic shit that their kids don’t need. Do people REALLY do this? It’s so cold, and dark at 4am. I imagine it’s even colder, and darker at Walmart in the middle of the night…and for what? To scramble for the newest toy your kid will get sick of in eighteen minutes?
I think everyone should step up this year, and do some good.
I’m going to be creating the ultimate homemade Christmas wishlist, and I’ll post it here this week.
What are you doing for Christmas this year? Still going the “what’s on your fantasy toy list” or are you being a little more thrifty with our shit-tastic economy?

I love the idea of giving handmade gifts–much more meaningful than just walking into the nearest Target and dropping $20 on some random thing. Helps that it’s thrifty, too!
This year, everyone is getting books. I usually buy a ton of books, but this year I’m making a conscious effort to buy more. The publishing industry is hurting, like everyone else, and I’m going to do my part to support it!

I was the asshole outside at 3-4am on black Friday. Me & my BFF would spend every Thanksgiving pouring over all the flyers from every paper we could get out hands on & then we would work out “the plan”, where to go first, what we were grabbing etc.
Well no more dammit! I’m broke…so is everyone else, so why the hell would we or anyone else put undue stress & put themselves into further financial hardships over trinkets & baubles? Not me sister!
I’m looking forward to spending a beautiful Christmas with my family & friends eating good food & having nice conversation. That’s what Christmas should be about anyway…not the stuff we buy, but the company we keep. This s the first time in a long time that I’m actually looking forward to the holidays & I’m not stressed out one teeny, tiny bit!
Eat that Visa!

Dh and I decided we are going to rent the Wii machine and a game or 2 over Thanksgiving and Christmas. This way we can play it all weekend til we get bored, and then return it on Monday without the guilt of spending a fortune on another “thing” that gets forgotten and under-used. (although I am a sucker for Guitar Hero on level 1, ya know, cause I suck at expert level)

I used to think I was the only (somewhat) sane person who NEVER partook of Black Friday.
I hated the idea of getting up early and its so damned cold already by the end of November, just to wait in a line to buy something that “someone” just HAD to have.
I LIKE the idea of staying up late on Thanksgiving after we’ve watched “Christmas Vacation” for like the umpteenth time and played a zillion board games (family tradition) and eaten way too much and drank God knows how many bottles of wine.
I also love the idea that I get the day off and I can sleep in and look forward to leftovers for lunch!
Ive become a Scrooge anyway. Ive always (secretly) hated Christmas shopping. The crowds! The lines! My feet! So several years ago, I began doing almost 100% of my shopping online. Many sites offer free shipping during the holidays and I can shop in my jammies if I want to and I dont have to drive around looking for a parking spot AND I dont have to put makeup on to go out in public!
