The internet is sad today
Do you know why? I’m moving, and I won’t be ON the internet for three days. I know some of you would have been thinking “I wonder where that weird lame blogger went.” so I wanted to inform you that my [indeed] lame ass will be sweating as I unpack a zillion boxes in our new casa. I HATE moving. I’m going to have to come back and clean our apartment sometime during the week when I hand over the keys to the castle because as I’m packing up our lives I realize that yes, what my husband says is true, I’m pretty much a huge slob. There’s dust bunnies the size of cats floating around here, and I’m glad my daughter is at Grandma’s while I blog pack.
In fact, I’m really pleased with all the help I’ve gotten. Not with the packing oh no, that’s the parental units job and we are peculiar with all our crap, but with child care…the Grandma has taken Paige off our hands several nights so we could pack and clean and get things together without worrying about a box of books toppling over onto our ten month old. Tonight we need to dismantle the crib, and our bed, and whatever else. The pets are freaking out, I’m rambling and well.
That’s it, moving sucks. Tell me moving horror stories so I feel better about my dust bunnies!

I hate moving so much. I hate it sooooo much. I’ve moved way too much, too. Personally, I have moved:
1) From Chicago to Cleveland for college (lived in a Jesuit high school off grounds, on the 4th floor where the Jesuit Priests used to live when priests lived on high school premises).
2) Back home for summer
From Cleveland to Austin, TX for dh to go to grad school, and my daughter was born there (not in the apartment, but we were living in that apartment at the time, you know).
3) Back to Cleveland to live in a rented room in a lady’s house.
4) Then to the basement of a sorority house (didn’t know it was a sorority until I answered the add and they were desperate for a boarder–another long story)
5) Into the first apartment I shared with my soon-to-be husband
6) Into our second apartment (our cat Max just would not shut up and got us kicked out of the first)
7) Into our third apartment in Cleveland, where we needed TWO bedrooms because I was pg with my son.
9) To our second apartment in Austin
10) To the hellhole in Massachusetts
11) To our townhouse here, where my 3′d child was born (again, not IN the house).
So, I can tell horror stories galore. I can say that I just don’t think I’m capable of moving without movers now. Or packers. God, I love the packers. But, what we’re always wanting are un-packers and we haven’t had those yet.
So, I sympathize. I’m sorry you’re moving. But, once you’re all moved in, then it’s worth it!
12) To our current house (

Tracy, don’t worry so much about the dust bunnies,if it don’t bother you that much, well what the heck, the baby is the only thing really important , I remember how I thought every thing had a place and the kids darn well better keep it that way, now at 61 I just wish the kids were here underfoot, Altho I am a believer in parents having time alone, I think it was Rita who said she did’nt want to be with out her kids, and I love that, b/c there are some things I wish I could have a re-do on. And I know this is’nt a moving story, but heres a hug for ya, and Miss Rita if I could I’d un-pack for you, put it all away neatly, I’ve had a lot of experience,

We have movers, our last move we hired them and it was pretty much the best thing ever but PACKERS! I want packers, now.

Yes, packers are sweet. They come in and they wrap and pack all your stuff. If you’re anything like me (even with all my moving experience), then packing goes like this…
Pick something up, roll it in paper and then wonder which box to put it in. Walk around, peeking inside half-filled boxes and try to smoosh it into one of them. Adjust the label of the box with your Sharpie by adding “AND hall closet” to the “Living Room” box. Then pick up another object, roll it in paper and go looking for the right box again. Continue this for about three more items (or until an hour has passed), then “take a break” where you sit and sigh, sipping a can of pop while wondering how the FUCK you’re ever gonna get packed by the time you have to be out. Then your husband comes in and yells at you for not doing anything. Then, fast forward to the morning of the move..
Now, you’re just dumping entire drawers into Hefty bags and dragging them out by the boxes. You’ll figure out what’s inside when you unpack them.
I love packers. And their packing materials.

Well, as a Navy brat and now an Army spouse, I am a pro at moving. I’ve lived in the following States:
Alabama (3 times)
Mississippi (2 times)
South Caroline (2 times)
Virginia
Florida (3 times)
Illinois (2 times)
Georgia
Tennessee
California
Arizona
Pennsylvania
I’ve also lived in Germany 2 times and moved 2 times each time we lived there.
We’re getting ready to move at the end of the month for a whopping 2.5 months and then we’ll be off to….somewhere. We don’t know yet.
The good thing about the military moving us is that they send packers! Woohoo!!!! Packers are worth their weight in gold. GOLD. G.O.L.D.
Sometimes I actually like to move, because it’s a great excuse to clear crap out and get rid of stuff. I love getting rid of stuff! I’ve been doing it for weeks now. Yea!
The movers came to do a pre-move inspection they other day. We went to look at my closet and I told him not to laugh when he saw my shoes. When I opened the door he said “Woah, you weren’t kidding about the shoes.” I told him I never kid about shoes.

Yeah, Grandma we’ve been in this house (our house) for almost 4 years now–4 years in August. We moved in on the first of August 2004, and then I got pregnant August 3′d (it was our anniversary and the condoms were still packed). We’d like more space, since we bought it thinking our family was done. But, I just can’t get up the energy to move again.

I have a moving horror to top moving horrors.
When I was 16 weeks pregnant with my youngest, we got into a serious car accident. I broke my foot, tore ligaments, and broke my nose. My face was black and blue, which complimented the pregnancy nicely.
I had a week to move, pack all the crap up and Prescott was working full-time outside the home and was busy with an important project and couldn’t take time off.
My family didn’t help me at all. (Isn’t that lovely?) I just limped around, cried a lot and Prescott stayed up until 3am most nights and I hobbled to and fro, throwing crap into boxes. If it got broken, oh well.
I survived though. We all made it and now we’re in our “could be dream house” where we’ll stay forever and ever. I say “could be” because there would be some remodeling and an addition to truly make it my dream house, but at least I love the area.
Good luck Tracy. After your in your new place and settled, well, it’s like child birth, you just forget about the pain.
