I used to be a HUGE fan of Jon and Kate + 8 – I don’t have children, so I get a tickle out of watching others who do. I knew Kate was a bit wacky, but I took it in stride. I didn’t have anyone to vent to, so my pent-up frustration went unchecked. I must say, I enjoyed watching the show in ignorant bliss – until I found Jessica’s post on this blog! Now I watch each episode with a critical, and sometimes unfair, eye.
So yesterday’s episode — Color Me Gosselin. Why are you taking your kids to the Crayola Factory if you don’t want them to get dirty, or clean up after them, or use markers??? Kate, the reason your kids are having meltdowns is because you don’t let them do anything. And it’s not just me who feels this way – just ask your husband. He seems to think markers are fine.
While I am on the subject of markers – they are called washable for a reason. Last week I came home to find my precocious pooch with a chewed up purple Crayola marker. There was purple everywhere – on my cream rug, on his white paws, and all over my very expensive, very large tan micro-suede sectional sofa. But here is the real kicker – it washed right out! HA! Who would of thunk washable markers would just wash out!
Kate, you do not need to spend hours treating stains, as you claimed. You just stick the marker-decorated clothing in with the rest of the wash – you know, the stuff other people fold, iron and put away for you.
Your kids are what, three and a half and six (almost seven), right? Let them use a marker! They are freaking out and “melting down” because they are pissed. And the damn blue glue won’t kill them either. Do you really think that Crayola would supply toxic, hazardous and stain-inducing materials for their young patrons to use?
I know I don’t have any children of my own to clean up after, but during the day I am responsible for 20 – 25 youngsters. And it’s just me! No one else there to wipe noses, clean messes, correct papers, or march to lunch, music, gym, or the library.
Here’s my next complaint — stop complaining about taking your kids to public places. As a teacher I can tell you that field trips are much worse! 25 kids and only three adults to corral them. They have to be fed, taken to the bathroom, and shown an educational and enjoyable time – all of which is easier when the adults chill out and let the kids be kids.
So here is my final note on this episode – Jon, step up and put your foot down when it comes to Kate’s obsessive compulsive mandates. And Kate, quit your damn bitching! If you didn’t want to clean up after eight kids, you shouldn’t have had eight kids.

Oh, I don’t know about cheaper. We are still a week and a half from closing and I am broke! We aren’t even in it yet and I have put out more money then I care to think about. I had to pay 200.00 just for the pleasure of the bank reviewing my application. I have paid for a home inspection, an appraisal, a moving company, paint for my kids rooms, 1600.00 for breaking my lease here at the apartment. Closing is supposed to set me back about 12K. We sold a lot of our furniture to move here so that will now all have to be replaced. I am sure it will all be worth it but getting there may kill me!!!!

Summerfun-While your opinion is valid probably in some places, I will disagree still because I have worked in large corporate facilities where you will find the ‘grunge’ or ‘goth’ dresser who was hired because of their qualifications for the job by a person in human resources who knows to look beyond the way a person is dressed, how much they weigh, how old they are, etc. to their qualifications.
That being said, stereotyping of any kind is not acceptable in the year 2009 and should be discouraged and frowned upon when someone sees it with major corporations and even smaller businesses training human resources personnel to look beyond the exterior and find out about the qualifications and whether a person will fit into the company.
Everyone knows a person should look their best for their first interview but if their best is their ‘normal’ appearance of goth or grunge then I suggest a prospective employee let the human resources person know up front that this is how they dress and let’s move past that. Those persons trained to do just that —- will.
Everyone should be given a chance no matter their look if their qualifications are acceptable for whatever they are trying to achieve.

Here’s a thought to ponder–I wonder if these kids can divorce these people who are supposed to be their parents? I wonder what needs to happen for these kids to be taken out of the limelight.

Jennie, I think the worst is over with the house. Qualifying for this house has been quite a struggle. This is the third house we have purchased and by far the most difficult to get. With the economy as it is the banks are really scrutinizing buyers.
On the comments on sterotyping, I have a brother who never made his way out of the 60’s. He has a beard and long stringy hair. He looks a lot like Albert Einstein. He is extremely intelligent but has never been able to get any kind of job to accentuate his brains and I think a lot of it has to do with his appearance. Fair or not, it is what it is.
I had the priveledge of having a college student live with me several years back. When he was 14 his father died and with him being the oldest of 3 boys his mother found him to be more than she wanted to deal with. He moved in with me when he was 18. He got a tattoo soon after moving in with me. I tried to talk him out of it but at his age there was nothing he didn’t know. The tattoo he chose was barbed wire around his bicep. He went on to be successful in college and is currently a malpractice attorney. He is now 30 years old and says that the tattoo was one of the major mistakes he made in his life and he is embarrassed by it. Luckily shirt sleeves normally cover it up but he is invited to social events where it is exposed and is very self conscience(spelling???) of it.

No. The minor child has to be at least fourteen years old, and he must have income to support himself. Of course, these children are “working,” but this would open up a whole new can of worms in a court of law.
Simple. Pull the plug on the show.

As you pointed out these children are able to support themselves from the income they earned in the last five or so years of their young lives and certainly if the show continues. Just a thought. They would probably want to stay together and find a responsible adult to manage them and what is left of their childhood but I wonder if they could do it. As for opening up a can of worms in regards to the legal aspect, the whole scope of minors on reality shows has all ready opened up a can of worms as far as legality is concerned so why not go the rest of the way.
I don’t know if just pulling the plug on the show is going to be enough to keep the parents from coming up with something else that will continue to put these kids in the limelight but it is a start.
These parents need to step back from the limelight and give their children a childhood and forget about the show and the ‘better’ lifestyle they have exposed them to. Sell everything and live within the means of their working ‘real jobs without the benefit of their children to help them work’ will enable them to do.

That may very well be. I suppose it depends on the type of profession one chooses. I can’t remember, though, ever being treated by a physician who wore skulls and dragon clothing with chains, or seeing an attorney stand up in court sporting multiple facial tatoos, nose or tongue piercings and spiked dog collars, or having attended a board of directors meeting chaired by a woman in black studded combat boots. I think, too, much of it depends on the respect that one has for the other people in which one interacts, and how those people are going to respond to one who dares to be “different” in their appearance. It seems that many of those who choose that Goth or grunge look many times need to call attention to themselves for whatever reason.
Maybe that’s just me — and the conservative area in which I live. It’s only an opinion.
I just hope that these five-year-olds aren’t going to be running around with skulls, bling, and bones on their chests.

Summerfun-you know the comment about five year olds with tatoos, skulls, etc. brought a chuckle though very sad because I can honestly see this happening for ratings if this show continues.
Anything to keep the shock value and keep people watching is what we are going to continue to see, I think.

OMG, They say online that Jon and Hailey Glassman are getting married at the Venetian in Vegas. Supposedly he gave her a $180K engagement ring that was a skull shape made of diamonds. I bet Kate’s was a skull & crossbones.
Jeanine, I know how excited and exhausted you must be. It gets so overwhelming. Buying a new house is always a financial strain. Once you finally get into the house and make it a home you will feel better. The anticapation has got to be driving you crazy. I wish you the best of luck with everything. You and your family surely deserve it.

I have more children than this couple and my concern all along has been for the children in this mess. I could care less what the parents do with their lives if they would keep the children out of the media. I have a very understanding boss and as long as the phone is not ringing am able to write letters, play games on the computer, read books, balance checkbook-as long as am polite and answer phone when rings five days a week.
As far as obsession, please, this is a blog where we can voice our opinions about this story as it progresses and plays out in the media. The parents are the adults in this situation and if they want to see other people, divorce, so be it–that is their decision.
All along I have been questioning the legality of this show and others like it as it concerns the children and who is monitoring that ALL the monies is put into trusts for them.
As far as divorcing parents, it has been done in the past by hundreds if not thousands of kids in the world, so why not if that is in their best interest. But first they would have to have an adult in their life who cares about their best interests to start the process.

Barbara, tell me it isn’t so….he is getting married??? Oh my!!!! I wonder how long it will take for them to start populating so they can start a new show Jon after Kate maybe????
The house has been very stressful. My husband has always been the one who takes care of this kind of thing and since he wasn’t able to qualify for the house (no job, lots of debt) it has all fallen on me. I had no idea what a full time job it is all by itself!!!
As the cancer diagnosis did for me, it has really made me appreciate what I have. Living in this apartment has been awful. The apartment has been ok, although very cramped. It just has felt so temporary. I feel like Ohio is now my home but desperately want to set up roots. We are now 10 days away from closing. We went to the house this afternoon and were glad to see that the screened porch roof was replaced as we agreed upon. I have a feeling this will be a very long 10 days!!!!

Is/was she a “good” nurse…I plead the fifth!!
just thought I would educate “my public” about the nursing education system in the US….many..if not most non US countries do indeed require university education..we do not..
believe me..I know and respect the majority of those of those boards..so I was replying ONLY to clear up some misconceptions..

Havelotskids, there have been numerous article on the situation surrounding the Gosselin children. All of them agreeing w/what most of the bloggers on various sites, feel. The bottom line is, Kate and Jon are in this for the money! They are not going to stop this show, the only way it will stop, is if TLC says it will stop.
I think you may have forgotten what Jon has now supposedly signed the kids up for….that is why Summer said something about 5 y/olds running around in clothes w/skulls and tattoos, etc. Jon has signed the kids up to be “models” for the Ed Hardy line of clothes, which is all “vintage tattoo” art. So, we may be seeing them in that type of clothing in the near future. Not as a ratings booster, just more work/advertising/pimping of the kids! For the parents b$ne$fi$s.

My god, Is there no end to these 2 and their antics??
I used to have some respect for Jon, but this is over the top. He has never really worked a day in his life and is so happy to be back out(hang’in) with friends. Back to his old way of life. He just reminds me of a Beach Bum!!!
Those poor kids don’t have a chance in hell with those 2 as parents. I looked at the pictures of Hailey Glassman from an old mugshot and she bares a striking resemblence to Kate.
What a sham….How are they going to make a show out of this mess?

Shopping at Prada, dining on lobster, partying like there was no tomorrow. He’s spending money like a drunken sailor, but it’s not HIS money — it belongs to the children. It’s all for the kids, right?
That’s what is so disgusting about all of this. I think now that perhaps the Kool-Aid drinkers are spitting out the punch and realizing what these two are all about.
For some reason, I keep thinking about the snotty letter from the Rev. Craig Mitsubishi in Roswell, Ga., or whatever his name was. I’d love to hear him defend his position after what has transpired in the past few months.
BTW…$50,000 in liquor for a weekend trip in France seems a bit excessive, doesn’t it? Imagine the damage all of us here (especially Mully) could do with that much booze!

I just think this is awful, no matter which way you look at it!!!!! Those poor children….how absolutely devastating for them just to see him acting like a teenager weeks after being told of their parents separation. I can’t even imagine what they must be feeling.

He wasn’t finished sowing his wild oats when the twins were born, and he certainly wasn’t ready to be the father of eight children, regardless of which one of them (or both) hatched the Grand Plan.
I think he just really needs to be careful because he is giving Kate and her attorneys the ammunition they need in child custody court. I can’t believe that he is so dumb that he can’t see this. On second thought, I guess when you have a chance for love on a yacht in France, your vision becomes clouded, no matter what designer sunglasses you are sporting.

Summer, Hailey is a skank! She would have to have done some MAJOR rehauling to clean up her image. Now her lesbian lover is coming out and telling Jon to run, while the going is good! I couldn’t find just the one pic I wanted to show y’all so I have to post all of these, and I warn you, they are not very “nice” to Hailey. BUT, skip them and click on the next to the last dot (from the right) and see Hailey passed out in a tree! As pathetic as all of this is, the shot of her in a tree, is too dang funny!

I think that a guy can only take so much of a controlling wife, and he couldn’t tame the shrew, or didn’t have the kahones to do it. He let it go on for ten years, and decided to get out while he could. However, going back to his wild and misspent youth is not the way a responsible father of eight children behaves, especially since he is concerned that these children will google him in the years to come. If he had to find a girlfriend to parade around 20 days after filing for divorce, did it have to be this one?

I am headed out for 5 days tomorrow….going to Delaware w/my son in law and grandkids, to visit his mom. My dtr. going to conference in CA and he decided to drive to DE from Charlotte w/the kids! I’m sure he asked me, so I could help w/them in the car! I’ve been teasing him, but he says no, but I know he’s too sweet to admit it! He had to put his dog down today, so I’m sure he’ll be sad for a bit. He came into the marriage w/a golden retriever and my dtr. came into marriage w/her norweigan elkhound (she had to be put down 3 yrs. ago). Keep us in your prayers for safe traveling and also, keep J and me in your prayers that we don’t go whacko in the car for 8+ hrs. w/the kids! Thank heavens they have one of those dvd or whatever they are, players for the car so they can watch some of their fav movies, etc….hopefully that does the trick for at least some of those hours!
