Jon and Kate Plus 8 - Color Me Gosselin
I used to be a HUGE fan of Jon and Kate + 8 – I don’t have children, so I get a tickle out of watching others who do. I knew Kate was a bit wacky, but I took it in stride. I didn’t have anyone to vent to, so my pent-up frustration went unchecked. I must say, I enjoyed watching the show in ignorant bliss – until I found Jessica’s post on this blog! Now I watch each episode with a critical, and sometimes unfair, eye.
So yesterday’s episode — Color Me Gosselin. Why are you taking your kids to the Crayola Factory if you don’t want them to get dirty, or clean up after them, or use markers??? Kate, the reason your kids are having meltdowns is because you don’t let them do anything. And it’s not just me who feels this way – just ask your husband. He seems to think markers are fine.
While I am on the subject of markers – they are called washable for a reason. Last week I came home to find my precocious pooch with a chewed up purple Crayola marker. There was purple everywhere – on my cream rug, on his white paws, and all over my very expensive, very large tan micro-suede sectional sofa. But here is the real kicker – it washed right out! HA! Who would of thunk washable markers would just wash out!
Kate, you do not need to spend hours treating stains, as you claimed. You just stick the marker-decorated clothing in with the rest of the wash – you know, the stuff other people fold, iron and put away for you.
Your kids are what, three and a half and six (almost seven), right? Let them use a marker! They are freaking out and “melting down” because they are pissed. And the damn blue glue won’t kill them either. Do you really think that Crayola would supply toxic, hazardous and stain-inducing materials for their young patrons to use?
I know I don’t have any children of my own to clean up after, but during the day I am responsible for 20 – 25 youngsters. And it’s just me! No one else there to wipe noses, clean messes, correct papers, or march to lunch, music, gym, or the library.
Here’s my next complaint — stop complaining about taking your kids to public places. As a teacher I can tell you that field trips are much worse! 25 kids and only three adults to corral them. They have to be fed, taken to the bathroom, and shown an educational and enjoyable time – all of which is easier when the adults chill out and let the kids be kids.
So here is my final note on this episode – Jon, step up and put your foot down when it comes to Kate’s obsessive compulsive mandates. And Kate, quit your damn bitching! If you didn’t want to clean up after eight kids, you shouldn’t have had eight kids.

I do not believe that Kate was ever an RN, maybe, maybe an LPN, or nursing asst. Definitely not an RNI never believed she was, and still don’t. She is not book smart, at all,

Kate herself never said she was an RN, only that she worked on L & D floor.

Nurserosie, no one implied this. My mother was an RN from a nursing school, with no degree. She was considered the best, most competent nurse in town. I would never imply that a degree would make for a better nurse. I work in a field that requires different degrees. Beleive me, I know that a degree does not make a person better. I am sorry that you thought I was implying anything. I was only questioning whether or not the two of them had degrees.

Jennie, I graduated from college and received my degree when I was 21, so it is possible. I started kindergarten 4 months before my 5th birthday. I was always the class baby. LOL
I doubt that Jon even finished college. He just wanted to roam around Europe and play. I think he was working at a restuarant when Kate first met him and that she had just started nursing.
nmgrandma, I understood what you meant and that was exactly what I meant also. I think that nurserosie misunderstood and was trying to defend her profession. BTW, I truly admire anyone who is a nurse. My best friend and a cousin are both nurses. It is something that I know I could never do.

Sorry for the statement that seems to have started a tone of blogs that was never intended. What I intended to say but was misunderstood is that both of these people were working in ‘normal’ jobs with some qualifications to do so and they need to return to that to make the money they will need to raise their children as single parents.
I don’t know if he is qualified to work in any other field or if he is willing to learn a job in another field, but if he is and is not trading in his children’s fame to do so - more power to him. Whatever IT job he had earlier is probably more than enough income to raise his family and her job as a nurse, nurse’s aide, whatever it was she did is enough to raise their family also or if she wants to learn another job to support her family that does not have her earning money off her children’s backs or trying to cash in on her ‘fame of the last few years’ — great.
They only need to downsize from the Hollywood psuedo lifestyle and get back to REALITY.
Reality as a normal working parent is what most people who are familiar with this show would wish upon the children right now with average home, less toys, no private schools, smaller town and out of the cameras.

I understand what you are trying to say havelotsofkids. If she was a nurse, regardless of what capacity that was, and he was an IT person, degreed or not, that is what the skills they have that should be supporting their family. Kate needs to quit spending all the kids money on her tan, body and hair and Jon needs to quit whining about the loss of his younger years. If he was so concerned about losing his 20’s then he should have not gotten married and had children in his 20’s. He has made his choice and needs to live with it and support the children that this choice created. He is not the one who should be living a life with no cares in the world, his kids should. They need to spend their time and energy raising these children with the skills they have aquired. I get up each and every morning and go to work as a quality engineer in the aerospace field. I don’t do it for any other reason then our family has this bad habit of wanting to eat and have a roof over our heads.
I think he is the better parent. That isn’t too much of a compliment based on the fact of what his wife has demonstrated in her own parenting skills. I am getting sick of hearing him whine!!!

havelotsofkids, EXACTLY I agree with you 100% The only misunderstanding was about the degrees. It really wasn’t important until one person misunderstood and made an issue out of it.
This is what bothers me the most. Why aren’t they happy with what they have? Why are they always itching for more? They need to take a long hard look at where they are and realize that money and fame mean nothing without a loving family to share it with. This family is breaking apart and yet they are still reaching for the stars and wanting more.

I call it Gothic/grunge. My kids say it becomes “ghetto” when there is lots of bling on the arms and back. That “look” has never really gone away, and I guess it’s here to stay. Thank goodness, my kids want nothing to do with it! The boys are into Yankees and basketball jerseys for casual wear, and a modified “preppie” look for dress. The girls are into conservative girly things — no Britney Spears or Limited Too (now Justice). THANK GOODNESS! (I wouldn’t let them wear it anyway!)…

There are times when I look at pictures of those kids, I would just love to pack them up and help them escape the cameras and the unreality that has been their life for so long. Does anyone know what is happening with the child labor law violation investigation? Maybe when the new season begins, HOPE HOPE HOPE, we won’t see this show in the lineup.
I hope with all the turmoil in their young lives that one of these parents, dad would probably have to do, has allowed the extended family back into the kids’ lives. They need to know their cousins, aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandpas, etc. because when it boils down to the nitty gritty your family will be there in the end. Also have to wonder how these kids really get along with each other–doesn’t look good on camera.

Have to reply to the discussion of kids’ clothing. I have discovered over the years that it doesn’t matter what a kids wears, it’s all about their attitude. You can have a kid dressed all in black, black polish, black dyed hair, black lipstick yet be the most respectful and pleasant personality to have around and then on the other side of the coin have a short hair-cut, caridgan wearing around the same age person who swears up a streak, can’t look an adult in the eye, and is so hungup on themselves no one can tolerate being in the same room as them.
It has nothing to do about the clothes. If my kids are comfortable in black, in blue hair, having nose rings but have a great attitude and get along with everyone–that is great. I would much rather have a child like this than one who looks the part but is just awful to be around.
Just my thoughts on raising a teen in a messed up world. It is all about the attitude and not about the look.

Good afternoon ladies! I have two more days until life resumes some normalcy. They leave Thursday afternoon and then I begin putting my house back together!
I am slowly putting the pics together and will try to have them on my blog very soon. There will probably be 3 different albums titled “Wedding” “Bridal Shower” and “Rehearsal Dinner”. Please feel free to browse til your hearts content. I also am posting my speech to Kathleen, which is there for all of you to read. Ill give a yell when they are posted and all you do is click on my red name, here on this blog to get to my blog. I hope you all enjoy the pictures. There are TONS!
Barb: The wedding was at Patterson Homestead which is on The University of Dayton’s campus. You will be able to see from the pics when I post them, just how beautiful it is. We wanted Benham’s Grove since we literally live right up the road from there, but they cant handle a very large crowd. Polen Farm was already booked, so be sure to get your name in early if you want to use them. You might also try Cox Arboretum, expensive, but beautiful.
I am a BIG fan of anything licorice flavored. I love Jagermeister and Sambucca and when I was a little girl, my Lebanese grandfather kept a supply of some kind of Arabic liquor that had a very strong black licorice flavor. I would dip my finger into the glass and lick it off. I think the stuff was pretty strong because I remember people acting very happy quickly after drinking it!
My favorite black licorice is called PANDA and Kookaburra. I get them both on the Vermont Country Store website.
The weather here in Ohio has been absolutely gorgeous this week. Warm-ish days, cool nights and very low humidities. Not at all typical for July in Ohio.
Who said we were in global warming?

Mully,
Thanks for letting me know. I can not wait to see the pic’s. I have heard that Polen farm is tough to get and Benham’s the same way. Have you ever heard of “The Secret Garden”? It is on Route 73 on your way to Waynesville. It is gorgeous, but it can’t be for large crowds. Only 50. That is only 1/4 of what we would need. Steve is from a large family and so are we so it will have to be a large place.
What isn’t expensive these days. Anna is our only one so we always told her she would have the wedding she would like to have(within reason). Anna has said she wants Simplicity & Elegance. My husband (Mike) says “That sounds expensive”!!!!!!!

I posted on this site a long time ago and boy ‘o boy, did my posts get flamed to a crisp because I couldn’t understand how anyone could think that Jon & Kate were decent people, never mind decent parents. I gave up posting here because I thought I was the only one who didn’t worship J&K and didn’t feel welcome because I wasn’t a fan of J&K but liked to watch the show for laughs. I now see that I’m not the only one who feels this way.
I used to watch the show out of curiosity and the fact that the kids were funny (well, except Maddie IMHO). I’ve stopped watching the show ages ago because I just couldn’t stomach the phoniness and product placement. Now I can’t watch because I feel so sorry for those kids.
I never in a million years thought that I’d prefer Kate over Jon, but Jon makes me sick - he is vile. Could you imagine if the “Mother” were to flaunt her boyfriend(s) or talk about moving to NY? She’d be set on fire for even thinking of moving 5 miles away from her children….yet Jon gets to ACT like a rock star and openly have affairs. I don’t care if they’re separated or not, he should keep the whoring around to a minimum until his divorce is finalized, for the sake of his kids. His frat boy behavior makes me want to vomit.
Thanks for letting me vent, lol…I’m just so sick of being bombarded with J&K from every magazine on the rack!

You know America seems to be the exception in the world to the phenom that is this couple. They don’t get the press that we see here anywhere else in the world at this time, though recently their coverage here in the US has diminished to the point that people can honestly wonder who they are.
As for whether one parent is right or not about having lovers around the homefront and in front of the media is kind of a moot point because both these people have no problems flaunting their less than stellar lovelives in front of their kids and the cameras. I just think that she is being a bit more discreet but seem to remember the kids catching her in the house in a ‘compromising situation’. Let’s hope their partners and they are all practicing safe sex, don’t want to see any more of their children destroyed by them.
Who ever wrote that he wouldn’t get as much money with the state as with a private company is probably right, don’t know; but either way they have to downscale their lifestyle big time if they want to work at regular jobs like the rest of the population.
As far as her leaving her kids and leaving him at home to go out and about, wouldn’t matter to anyone at this point because right now it seems like they both have left the kids and are gallavanting around the globe. Wouldn’t care to me if the mother or the father is the full-time provider as long as one of them is. It is the kids that are losing in this whole situation with neither parent really there for them.

Jennie, that is a great idea; I will try not to ask about the investigation for a while yet. It is just so frustrating that with the new season ready to start in a few weeks that a person is hoping we will not see this show again or any of these children on television ever again and hope that everything is being done for that to not ever be their ‘reality’ ever again.
Every time I hear of another happening with this family or reality minors am glad that I don’t have television for my children to view thinking this is reality anywhere in the world. Children should be children and not have to work for their parents to have food on the table, etc. I hate to see the exploitation of these children and others on television. While we have always had child stars this seems like an entirely more vicious way of exploitation and abuse of minors in the media.
As for the parents, I don’t really keep up with what they are doing and hopefully the media will quit writing stories about them and they will fade into the woodwork. Yeah for all of us but especially the children if their parents are forced to take a ‘reality’ check and put their lives in order.

Someone, so many stories now can’t remember which one, that said that one of the children saw Kate and gentleman in a very friendly clinch in house.
The FACTS in this ongoing saga are ….
There was a marriage
There were children born
There was a divorce filed
There was a television show
There is a property some of the family live at

So I am here I skimmed through what i missed and aplogize in advance I skipped over s far as the death of Mj is I missed it all.I was camping,no internet,tv and didn’t get batteries for radio for a couple days and had no ideal he died till someone on the beacch informed us.I wil say I will never never never never go camping without cd’s if I have something to play them on again.Friday to sunday noting but MJ the whole time.Nothing personal just to much of his music.
As to J&K it is interesting to watch them in hindsight.I never really drank the kool aid but i do not see how someone could.I have caught in since I left but I just caught a episode fron when they were two/maybe early three when they were putting up shelves in the garage and jon said something along the lines he liked when when kiven came over because he like that kate was nicer to him,he thought it was because she liked and respected her brother. How could one not see that and think she should like and respect jon for being her husband.

Jennie, I read on one of the other blogs that Mady witnessed Kate kissing the bodyguard. Who knows if that is true or not. I certainly wouldn’t put it past Kate. She is probably just being more discreet than Jon. He doesn’t have a working brain cell left in his head.

While I understand what you are saying, I would think there would have to be some sort of distiction between the two degrees. What is a diploma school, and how long does it take to get your RN at one? Does one spend more time (and money) getting their BS degree, and is there a difference in pay scale? I mean, if you could become an RN in two yrs. and start at the same salary, why would anyone go 4 yrs? Unless of course, you had to go back and earn credits for a BS degree before you could go into the master’s program? I’m curious now.

Ok…let me tell the whole story of nursing education…many years ago..I started in 62,,,almost all RNs were “trained” at hospital schools of nursing…these were 3 year..11 month a year programs..many of “us” went to a local community college 4 days a week and obtained “college” level courses..all nursing classes were given at the hospital..sometimes by doctors..usually by nurses who were trained in education…
at the time..yes there were 4 year university programs in nursing…also 2 year community college programs in nursing..ALL three programs had the end result of allowing the grads to take the SAME licensing exam…ALL states in the US issue only ONE RN license!! regardless of how long the process took..sounds crazy..but that’s what is was…for instance..”diploma” or hospital based programs ..being 3 11 month years actually provided the most actually bedside experience…just ask a doctor over 50 years old which “kind’ of nurses he preferred!! I have 4 sisters..all RNS…two of us went to diploma schools…youngest two went to community college programs…the end “degree” was diploma,,associate or bachelor’s degree…all of us took the SAME state board exams…and were eligible for the same entry level jobs
fast forward 50 years…diploma schools have almost disappeared (except for the state of Penns which still has a few)..the reason?? it was expensive to house, feed ,,uniform and book the students for 3 years (my 3 year program cost a measly $1000 for all three years!!)
community college programs were two 9 month years..bachelor’s programs did indeed take 4 years…but about 50% of those years was not in nursing at all..but English,,lit, etc…most only spent 2 college years (9 month years) actually in a hospital..for instance as a diploma student “we” could handle almost 5 patients per shift halfway thru out program…I have worked as an instructor at both communnity college and university programs..those students have a tuf time handling 2 patients per shift(ie..diploma nurses got more practical experience..less or no “university” level electives)…
since my day…with almost NO diploma hospital programs..the majority of nursing students attend community colleges..cheaper than universities…
very very few “jobs” right out of school reward you if you have a BSN…the difference is the opportunities..ie teaching administration etc..that many if not all..institutions insist on university education..
again…all RNS have the same license..in every state in the US..there is ONE licensing exam..and all licenses read “registered nurse”…Kate went to school at Reading Hospital and Medical Center..it is a hospital based diploma program..she is an RN
NOW…to confuse this issue..many of “us” did indeed go on..and added more initials after our names..and yes…our oppturunities did indeed open up different doors..I for instance..went from diploma school..to community college (which is actually going backwards)…ONLY because a severe car accident left me unable to work for nearly a year..and I was bored to death…I finished community college in ONE semester (since I already had all the nursing courses..so I had to make up the electives..as I recall I took music,,speech, history and something else..my license still read “registered nurse” …the being the overachiever that I am (was!!)…and being married thus having hubby to support me..I went to university..in two years I completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing..still my license read “registered nurse”..by this time I was 40 and didn’t know when to stop..plus was addicted to collegiate level instruction..so I applied to and was accepted to graduate level program..for some reason (have no clue why)…I chose to be a nurse practitioner…OK..when I finished I then had two official cards from the state..one read “registered nurse practitioner”..which assumed I was also a regular ole RN….NPs in this and most states CAN write scripts..so I had to obtain what CA so quaintly calls a furnishing number..a few years later I also was eligible for a DEA number..
bottom line..yes as I added initials after my name the jobs available to me grew..”regular RNS” cannot examine,,diagnose and write scripts(thank God)…tho..guess what I am still and always will be a registered nurse..voila..my next job could be at the bedside!! some places do indeed increase salary scales depending upon education level..I hate to throw in that registered nurses are now also obtaining doctorate education!! yikes..
in my family..with 4 RNS we all have different strengths..and weaknesses too…my youngest sister obtained her BSN…she is a school nurse..second in line never went beyond community college..she has 25 years of experience in cardiac rehabilitation..my oldest sister is the one I would want by my bedside if I was ill enuf to need lots of TLC (plus could give me the meds ordered by my doc etc)…I am the diagnostician of the bunch..tho now that I am retired (and actually always)…I do not ever write scripts for family members…etc…
bottom line..Kate Gosselin is indeed an RN….
I am a master’s prepared nurse practitioner..I am..and always will be a REGISTERED nurse..
I told you my profession has it all screwed up didn’t I??
rosie…RN, diploma, AA, BSN, MSN,,ANP
don’t even try to figure it out..just take my word for it…

From the eoline site:
“Unfortunately for party girl Hailey Glassman, the French soiree in St.-Tropez is over. She and her man Jon Gosselin are returning stateside.
However, the reality star’s children’s clothing-line project with Ed Hardy designer Christian Audigier rages on.
Not only can E! News reconfirm exclusively that the project is underway, but we also know when the collection should hit stores…
A kid’s collection of clothes designed by Gosselin, Glassman and Audigier is going ahead and is slated to be in stores in the U.S. by the end of August.
“It should be [happening],” the Frenchman told E! News Tuesday.
Audigier’s rep, David Weintraub, told E! News, “If Christian told you directly, then that’s exactly what he’s doing.”
The happy new couple and their collaborator celebrated the new partnership Monday evening at the world-renowned Tetou fish restaurant in Golfe-Juan. The trio spent two hours chatting and sipping a light rosé wine.
Glassman was unusually camera shy, likely worried she might face-plant or something. (That would be so embarrassing!)
“The minute Hailey saw paparazzi, she freaked out and hid,” an onlooker tells E! News. “But when she was in the restaurant, she relaxed, and Jon stroked her back.”
The 22-year-old also changed her Twitter background to an Ed Hardy logo.
Who says romance is dead?
The duo were spotted at the airport in Nice this morning, but Gosselin—ever the brand loyalist in yet another Ed Hardy tee—was on his own when he touched down in New York today, pausing only to chat on his iPhone and exchange currency.
Meanwhile, Kate Gosselin spent the weekend having a picnic with the eight. She was later seen by herself running more errands, getting gas and wearing a big hat. All very, very exciting stuff.”
Go over to the justjaredbuzznet site and check out the photo of Jon with his belly hanging out. Really classy stuff!

Employers don’t see it that way, however. Send a teenager for a job interview looking like that and see how fast he gets hired, no matter if he has the attitude of a saint. Stereotyping is always going to be a fact of life in today’s society, and if the teen isn’t applying for a job at the local Hot Topic store, he’s going to be out of luck securing a job if he has skulls on his chest, pierced eyebrows, multiple diamond studs in his nose and tongue, and rainbow hair.

I couldn’t agree more that Jon has no business fluttering around from woman to woman when he isn’t even divorced yet. IF he is doing everything he can to make this easy for the kids then he is way off with this behavior. He knows he is photographed by the p’s and should be concerned how his being filmed is affecting these kids. I don’t care what kind of bubble Jon and Kate think they have the kids in they have to know about some of this. Jon is just making it harder for anyone to protect the kids from being exposed to how ridiculous this behavior is for a man his age. I am anxious to see the book that the kids write. How about this title “Eight little victims”????
