Your kid might be a nerd if…
…you find them laughing hysterically at this joke:
Two hydrogen atoms are talking. One says, “I think I’ve lost an electron.”
The other says, “Are you sure?”
The first replies, “Yes, I’m positive.”

Does it make me a nerd if I laughed?

I laughed, but I’m thinking that laughing at the joke (or actually getting it) doesn’t necessarily make you a nerd.
I told it to Alex and he rolled his eyes and said flatly, “Ha, ha, ha.” I said, “Get it?” and he said, “Duh, it lost its electron so now it’s positive…really mom.” And another eye roll. I think the nerd is the one who is too far above it to let it be funny.

And it should be known that I consider myself half nerd and half geek so I mean no offense.

Ah, then you’d love Alex’s “GND” shirt. It’s his school shirt, it says:
GEEK
NERD
DORK
(then the school name)
There’s also one that says: BEWARE I HAVE A CALCULATOR, AND I KNOW HOW TO USE IT!
But, maybe he is too old to laugh at mom’s jokes. Mike knew the punch line when I started it, and he wiped his eye a little and said, “Ah it’s good to know the classic chemistry jokes are still making the rounds.”

This is hysterical!!!

When he gets bigger, we’ll get one for him. He’s look really silly swimming in one now, since they only come in teen/adult sizes.

Two neutrons are drinking in a cocktail lounge.
“It’s getting late,” says one. “And I’ve got a spin around the supercollider in the morning.”
The neutron catches the bartender’s attention.
“Check, please,” he says.
The bartender looks at them both and says, “Oh, are you guys neutrons? Then there’s no charge.”

LOL. I’ll run that by my AT team next time. All five of the boys reacted like Alex did to the hydrogen joke. Too above it, or they have no sense of humor. Coin toss.
I saw another school shirt last night, for the girls: GEEK IS CHIC

Thanks for both jokes. My wife will love them. Our son just turned six, so he may not be ready for them yet. Yet. Given his penchant for video games and his inability to understand the comic timing on “knock, knock!” jokes, we’ll see how things develop.
