Jon and Kate plus 8
If you haven’t caught an episode of TLC/Discovery Health’s “Jon and Kate plus 8“, it just may give you a little solace in the hardships of ones own parenting challenges. Jon (an IT Analyst) and Kate (a former nurse) Gosselin used in-vitro fertilization to help spawn 8 kids. One set are twins and the other six are from a subsequent litter.
Last season, I really liked the spunk coupled with the unconventional and imperfect parenting techniques used by Kate. Although she tended to run a tight ship, she was also human and threw political correctness to the wind when it came to the realities of having 6 toddlers and young twins only 4 years older than the sextuplets.
This season, I have to say, the reality parenting TV show has lost some of its charm with me. Although I enjoy, in a voyeuristic sort of way, watching parenting pained by temper tantrums and legal slavery by way of 6 more demanding children than I am left to deal with, I also have found Kate to be as bratty on occasion as her preschool broad.
In some ways Jon and Kate are very lucky. They have a cozy network of incredibly supportive family and friends who take and/or watch their children frequently. In the first couple of weeks of this season, I watched as Kate went to spa treatments, out to dinner with just her and her husband and plan a vacation by themselves in the Florida Keys. Personally, I know of very few 1.3 children families that are afforded so much free time as they are.
Another less than flattering observation I’ve made — Kate is not very nice to her husband Jon. While Jon is easy going and incredibly accommodating to his wifes idiosyncrasies, she is always snapping at him and making condescending remarks. Is it not enough that he spends all of his time at home helping with the children and goes to work on a daily basis to provide for his classroom of children and thus allowing Kate to be an “at-home mom”. Of course, I can’t imagine that 8 kids in childcare would be worth the effort of working outside of the home, but she always acts as if he is clueless and her life is so incredibly hard. Often times, she resorts to treating him like one of their toddlers.
One episode, Kate decided to hire a cleaning person. Through her exhaustive search, she finally settled on the one person who actually agreed to take the job on — so her prospects were limited. After the brave cleaning lady left, Kate then went around her house with imaginary white gloves, pointing out the hidden dust left behind. “Thanks for trying,” Kate said out loud, along with other rumbles of disappointment. The implication was that the cleaning woman was fired, not up to Kate’s high standards. Of course, you should get what you pay for, but cleaning after 6 toddlers and their bigger sisters, something is bound to get forgotten. Perhaps she should have cut the cleaning lady as much slack as she expects in return?
While Kate seems like a lot of fun and incredibly organized, it’s the little things — weird things — that seem to get her in a tizzy, like what shoes the older girls are going to wear to a carnival or if any of her family or friends puts her out by being one minute late. Sometimes you get the feeling that Kate is nothing more than a control freak, loving every challenge that comes her way, but at the same time, expecting others to reward her and recognize her for having it so tough, when in actuality, she really doesn’t. Sure, having 8 small children would drive the sanest person batty, it has also given them a much desired family and tv show. All in all, they have a pretty fortunate lifestyle.
As much as I like this show, I wish Kate would be less focused on herself and the indulgences of her children and complain less. Most families, even with less children, have their own unique challenges and have many other issues to deal with on top of it. Count your blessings Kate. You are not the first “over-worked” mother and you won’t be the last.

I stopped being a fan of Michael Jackson a long time ago. I did like some of his music and there is no doubt that he was extremely talented. I’m actually surprised that he lived as long as he did considering his lifestyle. I am sad to hear that he died along with Farah. We were expecting Farah’s death, but I sure wasn’t expecting Michael’s. He was getting ready to do a comeback tour.

I’m a huge fan of Michael Jackson’s music. Billy Jean is one of my favourite songs, and there is no denying that MJ was one of the best entertainers of all time. But unfortunately that person had been gone for a long time. I think I don’t feel shocked or sad because like Val, I didn’t think given his mental and physical problems he would live a very long time. Sort of like when Anna Nicole died - it was just a matter of time.
MJ did not have a childhood. While the Gosselin children are not being beaten like MJ was, they don’t have a childhood either. I was watching a commentary of Kate’s interview describing the twins’ reaction to the break up. The commentator asked, ‘is nothing sacred to her? Does she thinks it’s okay to discuss how her children reacted?’ All I was thinking was, ‘are you sure it wasn’t being taped for a future show?’ I seriously would not put it past that woman. And now they are going to have a nasty battle over the assets. How amicable. I do find it interesting that Kate stated the marriage was irretrievably broken rather than discuss Jon’s adultery as the reason in her filing. She would get way more of the assets if she did so (which let’s face it - she wants more and probably thinks she deserves more). This just proves to me that Jody and Kevin are telling the truth. She didn’t put the adultery in her filings because she doesn’t want the ‘contract’ coming out in court.

Just a thought! I’m wondering if Steve is at the house with Kate!
It seems that she wears a bikini, when he is around her! When with Jon, she wore that black one piece thing! I think she should have a 360 mirror, so she would know just how bad she looks! Although, the milk jugs do look good! I wonder which of the kids are breast feeding!

Charlene! I STRONGLY agree with you on this!
Ive felt for a few weeks now that this entire “contract” thing has been somewhat covered up with more emphasis on Jon and his alleged affair.
I have never and I doubt that I ever will, doubt the validity of anything Jodi and Kevin say. They dont strike me as liars. Why would they?
I totally believe that Kate DID offer Jon a contract, which he stupidly, agreed to and that things spiraled out of Kate’s control once the media got hold of all of this.
What goes around, comes around, Kate Gosselin

If there is such a contract, it is like dynamite in Jon’s hands and if he uses it, it will exlode in Kate’s face. I’m sure that is why she avoided the adultery reason while filing.
I just hope they are able to settle their differences without that contract coming to light. Imagine the children’s reactions to their mother and father agreeing to such a contract. When they are old enough to figure it out, it signifies that the show was more important than their family.

Kate didn’t file on adultery charges because she knows that she is guilty of same. From the bio that I read on Jon’s attorney, he has real investigative skills and he will use them.

Valerie, I for one am glad that Michael Jackson is no longer around to influence our youth. His star fell after the Thriller Days. His strange behavior, obsession with plastic surgery and more importantly his OBSESSION WITH SMALL CHILDREN was chilling. I cannot feel that his attempt at a comeback wouldn’t influence young people who might want to emulate his behavior. We need GOOD ROLE MODELS for our youth, not weirdo, sicko, pedophiles like MJ.

I really doubt if that’s the reason. A divorce filed in Pennsylvania charging adultery would be a fault divorce and is extremely hard to obtain and it would drag out years. Charges such as those are rarely filed these days in this state, even if one of the parties openly flaunts the affair. If she were to file a fault divorce, the most likely charge would be the “standard” indignities.

I said:
Okay. I was right (it does happen, albeit infrequently!). I just called a friend of mine who is a PA divorce attorney. Fault divorces on charges of adultery are almost never filed, if ever. The reason is that there is proof needed. This means that, unless the other person confesses to adultery, what is required are photos, video-tapes, etc. of the actual “transgression,” if you know what I mean. Photos of the other party leaving an apartment, frequenting bars with another person, seen with another person or persons is not proof.
Of course, if a FAULT divorce would be filed on charges of indignities rather than adultery, it could be brought up — photos with another woman or women, etc., would fall under the scope of humilitation, and this would constitute an “indignity.”

I think this assumption, is really going out on a limb. While I wouldnt say that Kate Gosselin isnt guilty of having committed adultery, there remains A LOT to actually prove that theory and especially in a court of law.
I think we should all stick to what we know, at this point, to be somewhat factual and let the legal chips fall where they may.
Saying that Kate Gosselin has actually had an affair is tabloid speculation.
On the other hand, I DO tend to believe that there exists the possibility of a contract between Jon and Kate, issued at Kates suggestion months ago, to allow him some leverage within their marriage.
A. I think Kevin and Jodi are credible witnesses. I have always believed in their honesty.
B. The contract, if you will, would still be in play, no doubt, had it not been for the medial getting pictures of Jon way back in February showing him at bars etc. It only became worse with the more recent pics of him and Deanna.
Divorce proceedings are almost never filed in many states using adultery as a reason for the same reason Summer gave. Proof is needed and unless someone actually confesses to adultery, that proof is very hard to obtain.

June 26, 2009 @ 6:09 pm
I would also believe there is a possiblity that one exists. In fact, it would play into the not filing on grounds of adultery assertion. If a such a contract or agreement existed, then he had her “blessings” so to speak, to associate with other women. Thus, any complaints on the grounds of adultery wouldn’t hold water in court of law.
I agree. Throwing out assumptions as facts, instead of opinion, isn’t always the best thing to do, especially when there are so many substantiated facts in this case that can be expounded upon.

Summer and Mully, We actually don’t know much of anything and I agree that opinions differ greatly from fact. We can assume all we like, but it doesn’t really count for anything. Only the parties involved know the truth.

True. We don’t know the personal details of what transpired, when and why. But we do know “facts,” such as the date of the filing, place of filing, name of attorney, etc. etc. In fact, we do know why it was filed in Montgomery County instead of Berks County. In the latter, anyone can walk into the court and obtain the nitty-gritty details of the complaint. It’s a matter of public record. In Montgomery County, however, details are not available as public information. If the recitations of the divorce become public, it would be interesting to find out how the media got them.
The timing of Kevin’s account coincides exactly to the time I first heard of the “problems” as spread forth in the community. So…I would believe that his account of Jon’s visit to him have some credibility.
Kate has put forth private information, such as the children’s response to the divorce. It seems that nothing is sacred to her, and I would believe that if she keeps doing the speaking runs, then much more of what actually transpired is going to become public knowledge. We’ll then have the “facts,” according to St. Kate. It’s interesting when the Babe scandal first broke, she put herself on national television, saying they were dealing with it privately. Nothing has been dealt with privately. She over-runneth at the mouth.

Summer, are you saying that if Kate gave Jon a contract, it would be legally binding in a court of law?
Also, I do know that TMZ has secured a copy of Kate’s Monday filing:

Summer,
It states in the filing that they have been separated for 2 yrs., and her signature is affixed to that document. While I don’t know if that is the truth or not and I’m sure that separated in this sense, means sexually, it does bring to mind a post made months ago, where someone stated on another site, that it wasn’t Leah that slept in the basement at their last home, it was Jon. I would believe that Kate’s hope in stating that they had been separated 2 yrs. would be her attempt to secure the divorce asap without the typical wait. ?????

If there were such a contract, he signed it, it was witnessed and signed in the presence of an attorney or notary, it would be a matter of fact and yes, I would believe that would be binding in a court of law. I would suspect that she wanted it to be “legal” order to ascertain that he showed up for filming. She apparently got her ducks in order to protect herself in case TLC decided to file against her (or them) for non-performance.
The docs obtained by TMZ are just standard filings, with garden-variety no-fault recitations. The meat of the documents, as far as I know, have not been made public and most likely they haven’t all been completed as yet, but will be as the case progresses. I would imagine, though, that it’s only a matter of time before someone gets their hands on them. It’s going to be a bit more difficult in Montgomery County than it would be in Berks County, which is why I believe they filed in Montgomery County.

I have written to Zondervan asking them a lot of questions like are they willing to put their good reputation on the line by publishing another book by Kate after the recent revelations on their marriage.
I asked them if someone carefully went over each recipe to ascertain that the source is cited and that the recipe is not printed elsewhere and that she has lifted or stolen it.
I asked them if they were sure that Kate’s recipes weren’t already published on the back of cereal boxes, cheese containers or soup cans.
I told them to take note that Kate’s “FLAG CAKE” is on the cover of Family Circle or Woman’s Day this week. I also told them that I had made the same cake 35 years ago.
I asked them if they were ready for companies to file lawsuits against them.
I asked them if Kate’s family traditions are really relevant in view of the fact that she is being charged with the allegation that she is having an affair with her bodyguard and that she couldn’t keep her husband from straying.
I told them in no uncertain terms that I would buy a USED, HEAVILY DISCOUNTED copy of the cookbook and that I would research each recipe and notify the sources of the recipes that they should file suits for plagiarism or theft of recipes without citations.
I told them to go and check out Amazon.com which sells Kate’s books and check to see the reviews they got. Out of five stars Multiple Blessings got four and Eight Little Faces got one out of five.
I told them that never on any program had Kate cooked a real meal and that the closest thing was when Jon cooked the Korean dinner for the family.
I told them that if they printed the book, they would lose their shirts as Kate is a has been and noone really cares that she is the supermother/hostess that is able to count to eight and layout 8 paper plates to serve her family.

Mully, Kate went to 50 speaking engagements in the last year and Steve went with her to every one of them. I can’t imagine that there aren’t some maids in hotels that noticed that Steve’s room wasn’t slept in if they booked a second room for him at all.

Lynda, have you seen the new reality show on WE “Surviving Septuplets”? It is a pure knock off of Jon and Kate. Bryan had a job but he is pursuing his MBA on Phoenix University Online. Jenny is a physician’s assistant and now works full time. They have a nanny. This week featured her FREE tummy tuck and she decided to add on her 400 cc boobies at the same time. Why not, she decided that she was already out so it wasn’t that much danger to get a new rack. Jennie did almost die after giving birth. Her heart stopped on the delivery table as she had twice as much blood circulating through her system and it was touch and go for a while.
Jenny is a whine and a nag like Kate. One segment showed her giving orders to save a tree in the backyard because guess what? They didn’t have enough room and they are adding on.
We have seen Bryan consulting a doctor for his obesity as he didn’t lose the babyfat and he hasn’t been offered a tummy tuck. I am sure it will not be long before he has to work at home like Jon does/did to make time for his personal trainer.
Jenny doesn’t seem to be as worked up over dirt as Kate is. She has been shown fishing dog fur out of one of the tups mouths and as they live in Arizona, they have a yard full of gravel and rocks, no lawn.
Jenny carved pumpkins with the 16-month old tups who really didn’t give a rat’s a&& and spent the time trying to get out of the yard.
Jenny and Bryan interviewed together like Jon and Kate and told the viewers that they were developing traditions with the kids. I am sure that future show will feature first haircuts, dental visits, shopping on a “budget”, etc. I wonder when the free trips will start.

Valerie, I live in the high dessert of northern NM and we have snakes and lizards as well. The day one of my neighbors moved into her house, she found a bull snake in her guest bedroom. I guess they really move fast because the snake had to use a circumtuous route to that room and all the movers were going in and out. The bull snake looks similar to a rattler and it eats rattlers. Thank God I have not seen any snakes.
There was a period of about a month a couple of years ago when I would come into the living room and find these tiny little lizards hanging off the screens in the living room windows. They found their way via a little hole between the door insulation strip and the jamb. I sealed that little sucker up and no more lizards.
I love to listen to the coyotes in the night. They are like little children crying and they go back and forth. They also like to tip over the garbage cans.
The landscape here is sage for as far as the eye can see. It is the most physically beautiful place that I have ever lived in. I love the space. Houses are on at least two acres each. I can’t count the number of times that I have searched for my car keys to leave only to find them hanging from the front door and the car is still there along with my camera and cell phone. I feel so absolutely peaceful and safe here except for the possibility of a snake.

Also on that same page there are a couple articles, not sure now who wrote them but it wasn’t one of “those” magazines… One of the articles explains why they moved the venue to Montgomery.

Again, Linda, I think its a stretch for you to assume, that just because Steve was with her on all of these speaking engagements that it indicates she was or is having an affair with him.
After all, he IS her bodyguard, right?
Maybe she is, maybe she isnt, but I really think allegations like this are out of line until there is some evidence to support your theory.
Sorry. But I have stated many times in the past many months that Kate has done enough that can be proven, which shows her to be everything we all think she is. I dont subscribe to high drama about Kate Gosselin simply because she creates enough of it on her own w/o all of us doing it for her.
As I said earlier, I think there are enough relatively accurate “facts” about everything concerning this couple that we really dont need to resort to tabloid dramatics.

Oh, so you think she took it so far as to have an attorney review and notorize it? For some reason, I didn’t have that opinion. I guess cuz of the way Kevin stated it, that Jon came to him and said Kate had presented him w/a contract that he could see other women, etc.. I guess I thought she wouldn’t have wanted anyone to see or know about it (contract). But if you’re correct, that leads me to wonder if she would she have had an attny. for TLC notorize it. IF that were the case, then both the G’s and TLC could be brought up on charges of fraud, I would think. And most certainly, if they had been separated 2 yrs., as her initial filing states. Then they most definitely could be brought up on fraud charges. For some reason, I thought that if the contract had been signed by an attny., then it might have come out in Kevin and Jodi’s comments. Just thinking out loud….

What would be the purpose in drawing up a “contract” if it weren’t legal and binding? She could have just as easily asked him to sign a hand-written note saying that he would show up for filming, but in that case, it could be broken on a whim. We may never know unless Jon writes his “tell all” book!
This “separated for two years” really has everyone buzzing. According to PA law, this does not necessarily mean that they are living in a different residence, the way we usually think of a couple being separated. PA has no separation requirement in order to obtain a divorce. If one claims to have been living “separate and apart” is means that they have not lived together as man and wife. They could still be living at the same address and maintain that they lived “separate and apart.”
