Jon and Kate plus 8
If you haven’t caught an episode of TLC/Discovery Health’s “Jon and Kate plus 8“, it just may give you a little solace in the hardships of ones own parenting challenges. Jon (an IT Analysist) and Kate (a former nurse) Gosselin used in-vitro fertilization to help spawn 8 kids. One set are twins and the other six are from a subsequent litter.
Last season, I really liked the spunk coupled with the unconventional and imperfect parenting techniques used by Kate. Although she tended to run a tight ship, she was also human and threw political correctness to the wind when it came to the realities of having 6 toddlers and young twins only 4 years older than the sextuplets.
This season, I have to say, the reality parenting TV show has lost some of its charm with me. Although I enjoy, in a voyeuristic sort of way, watching parenting pained by temper tantrums and legal slavery by way of 6 more demanding children than I am left to deal with, I also have found Kate to be as bratty on occasion as her preschool broad.
In some ways Jon and Kate are very lucky. They have a cozy network of incredibly supportive family and friends who take and/or watch their children frequently. In the first couple of weeks of this season, I watched as Kate went to spa treatments, out to dinner with just her and her husband and plan a vacation by themselves in the Florida Keys. Personally, I know of very few 1.3 children families that are afforded so much free time as they are.
Another less than flattering observation I’ve made — Kate is not very nice to her husband Jon. While Jon is easy going and incredibly accommodating to his wifes idiosyncrasies, she is always snapping at him and making condescending remarks. Is it not enough that he spends all of his time at home helping with the children and goes to work on a daily basis to provide for his classroom of children and thus allowing Kate to be an “at-home mom”. Of course, I can’t imagine that 8 kids in childcare would be worth the effort of working outside of the home, but she always acts as if he is clueless and her life is so incredibly hard. Often times, she resorts to treating him like one of their toddlers.
One episode, Kate decided to hire a cleaning person. Through her exhaustive search, she finally settled on the one person who actually agreed to take the job on — so her prospects were limited. After the brave cleaning lady left, Kate then went around her house with imaginary white gloves, pointing out the hidden dust left behind. “Thanks for trying,” Kate said out loud, along with other rumbles of disappointment. The implication was that the cleaning woman was fired, not up to Kate’s high standards. Of course, you should get what you pay for, but cleaning after 6 toddlers and their bigger sisters, something is bound to get forgotten. Perhaps she should have cut the cleaning lady as much slack as she expects in return?
While Kate seems like a lot of fun and incredibly organized, it’s the little things — weird things — that seem to get her in a tizzy, like what shoes the older girls are going to wear to a carnival or if any of her family or friends puts her out by being one minute late. Sometimes you get the feeling that Kate is nothing more than a control freak, loving every challenge that comes her way, but at the same time, expecting others to reward her and recognize her for having it so tough, when in actuality, she really doesn’t. Sure, having 8 small children would drive the sanest person batty, it has also given them a much desired family and tv show. All in all, they have a pretty fortunate lifestyle.
As much as I like this show, I wish Kate would be less focused on herself and the indulgences of her children and complain less. Most families, even with less children, have their own unique challenges and have many other issues to deal with on top of it. Count your blessings Kate. You are not the first “over-worked” mother and you won’t be the last.

The few that I bought are clearly different from the real deal…I got lucky with the one I bought a few weeks ago…so far it’s holding up! Most of them are junk and I wouldn’t recommend getting one thinking you’re even in the same ballpark as the real ones…but it is fun getting several “Coach” bags to match outfits you have while paying less than a bag you would pick up at Wal-Mart! LOL. Plus…who doesn’t love shopping?!
My girlfriend has been coveting a Kate Spade messenger bag for awhile now…how do you like yours?

AHH purses and shoes, two things that you don’t grown out of! LOL!! I have a real coach and a knock off, I read somewhere that a real coach would never have the logo on the inside cloth of the purse..
I don’t know if you all have covered it yet, but the gosselins have updated their website. You can still get to it by sixgosselins.com, but its called the gosselin ten now, it is very nice. There is a section of Q & A with a blurb about prayer and keeping their mouths shut and repaying good with evil. ALl in all it is a very well done update.
I hope that doesn’t violate the advertising thingy…

Stacey - I lent my bag to my daughter and that reminds me I better ask her where it is before she takes off!! I LOVE the bag, it’s a good size for me…thanks for the reminder!
My field of work requires that I dress in work out clothes and athletic shoes. My makeup just smears so I stopped wearing it while working, the only way I can dress up my outfits is through different bags!

I just finished reading it, enjoyed the dry hummor, and the pictures.
A far cry form the old web site….
Just an idea, maybe someone will start a new site for us? Call it Shoes and Purses! Or How shopping keeps us sane!

I will be honest while back this blog beame a for people to talk to each other about the ut their lives so i haven’t been on in about 100 pages.I stopped watching the show for a few months and late last season ans early this season I started watching it again. It is somewhat like different people,I’m sure the ages of kids have something to do with it but many things it doesn’t.I notice the use manners more, there is no reason to wait till there almost four to encourage manners like she is now.She doesn’t seems to put up with winning and other behaviour like she use to,again she didn’t need to wait till they were almost four to cut down on the winning. She seems less anal. The one show I caught she said mady saw herself being mean to collin(I think he was the one) and said she didn’t like the way she acted.Call me mean but I would have done that a couple years ago,she was old enough. It almost seems to be that she had some outside help come in and I don’t mean in a bad way. There is more but this is all I can think of right now.I mean in a good way like someone to help her in handling the winning and displine,it use to seam like time out was unkown to them but now when done on camera it seems like it is more routune off camera. She also seems calmer in some ways,it make me wonder if she didn’t calm down because she is seeing herself on tv and like mady not liking it or if she got professional help.Either way I’m not saying any of it to put her down I think no matter what her kids will be better for it in the long run

If you look at the top of this blog you will see, “Kate Spade Rue, Kate Tote Bag and Grace Handbags” in red. I havent clicked on them b/c Im not too into purses. I have a “Mary Poppins” type purse so that I can fit EVERYTHING I need/want to in it for myself and the kids and dont always have to carry a diaper bag. But just thought you might enjoy those blogs.

What is this I’ve been reading about Kate making Jenny dye her hair a different color?
Also, if you go the TLC website, then to the Jon & Kate link, there are some short clips of some episodes. There is one called “Magnet Mania” that I have never seen. It shows Collin (mostly) and the other boys taking a stool from the island and pulling all the magnets off the frig and throwing them on the floor. Cara was there and tried to get them to stop, but they didn’t. Next you see Jon come in and he makes Collin put them all back on the frig.

All I have to say, is who are you (as a stressed out over worked mom) to sit here and critize another stressed out mom. Why don’t you get off the computer and quit worring about a family (who is above all this and doesn’t care what so ever what you say or think about them) and go deal with your own problems. this is rediculous. everyone needs to back off. quit talking about other people, and work on fixing your own problems or making them better because God knows you aren’t perfect. no one is.

I think that is rediculous!!! But you never know I guess.
You know I heard from a friend, who heard from her sisters boyfriends aunts brothers daughter, whos friend is a 3rd cousin of Kates that she is the reason for the war. Give me a break ppl! I dont think Kate has that much power to make someone change their hair color!

Super Kate! It really is funny to read all that Kate has supposedly done. More funny is to read comments on the web about Kate being a liar when right in the same post are lies after lies about Kate. They go something like “I hate how dishonest they are, thats why I dont like them. Did you know that Kate commited welfare fraud? Yes thats right! Oh and did you know that they cut Beth out of the book? Yes they added Jon so Beth wouldnt get any money! Did you know they have another website where they BEG for money? That J&K just lie lie lie to us. Did you know Kate FORCED Jenny to color her hair? Lordy Be! Did you know that Kate has a chef to cook ALL of their meals? I just wish Kate would be honest” Im pretty sure these people do not see the hypocrisy at all.

Hi All!
I don’t think I’ve ever done this before, but I posted over on the Color Me Gosselin blog to address some of the more blatant rumors that we’ve seen blown out of proportion and discussed ad nauseum over the last (what?) SIX months now.
Some thoughts I’ve had for a while, but rarely do I take the time to “debate.” Usually a futile effort.
Hope everyone is having a great Labor Day!
Thoughts and prayers to those riding out Hurricane Gustav!!

Doodlebug: I dont see a posting from you on the other site, but nevertheless I will comment on what you said here….
I, personally feel that most people who arent taken in by Kate and her tactics, have judged Kate based on Kate herself…i.e. her behavior on countless shows where we see her acting like an obnoxious child. I wont belabor the points since I feel theyve been made countless times before. Yes, there are rumors abounding as there will always be when you put your lives into the fishbowl that J/K have. By their own admission on their website, they are aware that people will talk about them..it goes with the territory.
To say that everyone who has a reasonable amount of doubt in the honesty of Kate and Jon are simply reacting to rumors, is a pretty lofty statement.
I have said many, many times…Kates behavior on her show DOES make one tend to think that some of the rumors we hear, could very possibly have some creedence.
I cannot believe that someone like you, for instance, who really seems intelligent and thoughtful cannot see the many valid points those of us who dont appreciate Kate, have made.
Can you honestly tell me that you think that her condescending treatment of Jon is OK? That the way she seems to favor certain children over others is OK? That her seeming dislike for men in general, as pointed out by the way she talks to Jon and the way she consistently maligns her own sons is OK? That her total and all consuming way of controlling everything and everyone in her surroundings is OK? That her obsession with making sure that the public sees her frantically trying to “make memories” and yet yelling at the tups to not roll around in the grass because of grass stains or to not get Crayloa Markers on their clothes while at the Crayola Factory is OK? Is it OK that, in public, several times, she is seen screeching at her husband to do her bidding? Is it OK that for some strange reason, family members around Kate seem to just disappear? Is it OK that Kate tends to rant and rave when Kate doesnt get what she wants or doesnt get her way, no matter that Jon’s way might even be a better way?
Im sorry Doodlebug…I raised 4 children..yes I hated the enormous amounts of laundry and yes I hated stain removal and sometimes OMG! I even had to resort to throwing something away because it had been ruined. It goes with the territory..Having children MEANS life isnt going to be perfect and it certainly isnt always going to be CLEAN!
Kate leaves herself wide open for the criticisms she gets AND in my opinion, they both leave themselves wide open, by their very behaviors on their show, for public scutiny and speculation on whether or not some, if not all, of the rumors circulating them, might possibly be true.

Okay…it has to be said…tonight’s J & K episode was FANTASTIC!!
I don’t want to give away too much because people may be watching it at a later time because of time differences and because of the holiday, but this is one you won’t want to miss!!!!!!
I thought it was the most heartfelt, open and honest I’ve ever seen the Gosselins about their experience as parents and the changes that came to their family since having the tups. I’ve always felt they were real with us, but I think they really let us see another side in this episode.
Thank you, Jon & Kate, for being so open with your viewers!!!
Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!!!!

doodlebug, I have not been posting on CMG lately, but I did just recently, I had to say some thing for Allison J, and I also left a comment for you, Any way, I always enjoy some if not all of the shows, As some of us have stated before, we could tell of some things that we do not agree with, but there is so much hatred already spoken, so much negativity, that why add to it, Like some of us were talking about Steel Magnolias a while back, one statement one of the girls mentioned (very cleaver) Stacey I think, was, “If you can’t say some thing nice, come sit by me.” So I believe thats why we don’t say a lot about the G’s. Any way “Enjoy yourself” LOL

One of the things I recall is how many times J&K say how “Thankful” they are for the opportunity they have to take their kids on these trips, at the time they were talking about DW, and they both said they could’nt have done this on their own, and they mentioned several times how this show has afforded them this chance,
I have never heard them take credit for their trips on their own doing, I do think they are thankful.
Also I heard Jon talk about DONATING stuff, so I guess they do, do that.
Okay, where is MP3? has she been around lately?
Ambull, sure hope you are feeling better, you need to check in dear, just let us know you are okay.
