Not only that but for me personally (your glycemic mileage may vary) but most "diet" foods replace fat with sugars, etc. that actually INCREASE my hunger.

This includes my beloved diet sodas. Nutrasweet/Splenda make me hungrier. The quickest way for me to want to gorge myself? Have a diet soda a bit before.

Real food. Protein. Whole grains. Fruits, Vegetables. These are good things.

I agree 100%...I have successfully dieted my way to over 200lbs! I am shocked when I actually READ the back of product labels...the front of the box leads you to believe it's healthy...then you read the back & it's like OMG!
There is no secret....eat right and exercise. We need to stop feeding into (pun intended) the multi million dollar industry of quick fixes that are designed to make the fat fatter.
One of these days I'm going to put my java mocha chip latte down & get on the treadmill! I swear.

Choosing whole, unprocessed foods (i.e. foods that don't come in a box, bag, or can) is your best bet. Without counting calories, you'll find that you quickly become full, and although it seems like you're eating more, you'll actually be eating less, with the added bonus of getting all of the phytonutrients that your body can't get from processed foods. Eating about 1g of protein per pound of lean body weight, eating high-fiber carbs like brown rice, healthy fats like flax and fish oils, and tons of vegetables and fruits...you'll feel like you're super stuffed! Stay away from anything "white"...white rice, white flour, white potatoes etc. Save those for the occasional treat. It works like a charm for all of my clients, and actually becomes a healthy lifestyle instead of just a "diet". It's not that you can NEVER have sugar or processed foods, it just that you can only have them occasionally- not on a daily basis!

I'd suggest signing up for a martial arts class. A 14 y.o. shouldn't be feeling bad about her body. The great thing about martial arts is that it's FUN, so it never feels like exercise (but it is a lot of exercise). You learn to defend yourself, and you learn to appreciate your body for what it can DO and when you do that, it suddenly doesn't look so bad to you.

Seriously, most places have a free trial, sign up and try a class or two at some different places and if you hate it, then quit. But, I bet you won't.

I knew it! How apropriate that this came up now. I don't see how anyone has ever thought it better to eat chemically altered food than the real thing. Eat a variety of foods, eat proper portions, and stay away from junk. Actually, even junk in moderation is okay, but once you eat real foods for a while, junk just isn't all that appealing.
