Pedophiles at the gate…

Posted June 27, 2007 at 12:33 pm by Jessica

Today, The Imperfect Parent presents the first of a three part series about online predators and their reach into the mainstream. This is specifically geared towards parents who belong to parenting websites and blogs, as you may be surprised at the way pedophiles online think, their various antics, and how they use the internet to support their criminal behavior and provide information on our very own children.

Makes me wonder if technology has presented a danger that provides the venue for child predators to bring child exploitation to an unprecedented level:

Most parents certainly have an awareness of the threats of children being online, where they can easily fall victim of their own naiveté. We may even feel fully informed of the dangers that lurk within the bandwidth, as shows like “To Catch a Predator” gain popularity and stories of internet predators become common place within the news wires. But these stories only scratch the surface — parents might be surprised to learn that pedophiles, in their desperate attempts to be close to children and prey on their vulnerability, are using the anonymity of the internet to organize themselves in a united front and are now attempting to infiltrate parenting sites and blogs. They cloak and misrepresent themselves in order to gain trust so that they can plead their cases in effort to influence society’s reaction to child molestation; their goal is to normalize and mainstream pedophilia.

UPDATE: The other 2 parts of the series are now online:

Cyber Warriors - A new breed of superheroes battle online child predators.

Chris Hansen - The famous face of the To Catch a Predator series talks about his motivation, his new book, and the most disturbing thing he’s witnessed during production.

    Quote from your article:
“They frequently post on various non-related sites, pretending to be parents themselves or “experts” (always with a arsenal of flawed statistics), lawyers, or very commonly, victims of sexual abuse. The child abuse survivor persona is the one that is the most insulting — their common story is that their view was changed when they realized they enjoyed the abuse, and that it felt natural to them.”

Yeah, I kinda got this feeling about a couple of issues/debates that have come up on this site. Remember the ‘Shawn Hornbeck/Ben Ownby/Michael Devlin’ topic on this blog back in February? 2 Commenters in particular gave me this same creepy feeling. I’m not accusing, I’m just saying…..
I don’t believe that everyone who backs up the President is a Republican, or everyone who backs up medicinal Marijuana is a drug dealer. But anyone who can defend a peophile/child molester definitely is lumped in with that group, IMO!

Like so many other aspects of a kids’ life and safety, parenting is the key to success.

You have to be involved in their lives.
I’m glad MSNBC does these series, despite their critics, because it really does show that there are these pieces of human slime out there. It’s not just a scare tactic, it’s not just another topic for spammers.

    It’s real.

    And it’s sickening.

After watching “To Catch a Predator” several times, what has struck me the most is that so many of these predators/pedophiles look like everyday people. I think it’s also important to teach your kids that these creeps could be your teacher, your preacher, your postman, an ordinary individual with a lost puppy — anybody!

Good on you guys! Keep going and may God give you strength, courage and wisdom. You have guts. I am a Mum who is sick in the stomach to have been “woken” up to the reality of Child sex abuse mainly through following the Madeleine Mc Cann case. I pray for her and every other child out there, thank God for Angels like yourself. I am in another country and I would like to help but could not get as involved as what you do, what do we mere mortals do? Funding perhaps? Blessings to you, keep going!

Think you should all read this one: http://gamerdadforums.redbirdsolutions.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5179&sid=10ee4fd3182c96ef4fbbaabb165f420e

I’ve been reading more and more on this lately. It seems the more this pedophile “Lilith” and her cohorts scream, the more millions of gamers, are being desensitized to their behavior. What else would one expect when the people in charge, Blizzard, are basically telling the subscribers to either put up with it or don’t play.

Way to hold people hostage to your game Blizzard, while sneaking in the perverts who are playing AGAINST YOUR OWN TERMS OF SERVICE! and forcing people to put up with them. You knew the subscribers had 2 years invested in their characters in the hobby of that game, so understanding that, you gave them a choice of either accepting the perverts or GET OUT!

Well, the WORD is getting out. Everyone pretty much knows by now what’s going on who plays the game. Might as well let the rest of the world find out and blow the lid off this.

It’s not the first pedophile found in World of Warcraft, but it is the first organized grouping of them who allowed to operated with Blizzard’s blessing.

I hope your bandwidth provider pulls the plug on you Blizzard, when they have to explain why this perversion is being transmitted over their lines, to an inquiring parental public!

Vigilante justice is never ok. We pay taxes for trained and professional law enforcement to catch criminals, yes even pedophiles. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

And when those paid professionals are completely stretched thin, then what? Do we just suck it up and live in fear amongst these freaks? No way.

Kill ‘em ourselves? No. But make these monsters’ lives extremely uncomfortable? You bet!

I love your website and what you are doing.
Our family are survivors of a sexual predator, and the one thing these shows need to tell is what happens AFTER the predator is caught.
Our case was not even close to the show. Even though we had boxes of evidence it still took us 10 months to put him in jail and then another 8 months to have him convicted and sentenced. Although the crime carried up to 30 years, he got 7 years, and will serve less than five. He will be out on the streets 7/15/2011.
What society needs to do; is go to the law makers of their states and demand laws that keep these predators behind bars for the full sentence and NOT go by the “national norm.”
The victim notification system has been for us worthless. I hear about this man, more from my google alerts than I do the system.
It was through the google alerts I set up that I heard Brock Purviance was soliciting our state to have his sentence removed or lowered. He has broken the law while he has been in prison by contacting the victim. Three other victims have come forward through my website since his arrest.
Parents need to get mad as hell and say we aren’t taking it anymore, and demand the laws change to protect every child under the age of 18.
Catching the predator is one thing… keeping them off the street away from children is another story all together.
God bless you for a wonderful website that helps parents know they are not alone in this fight! I can only tell you from my heart, I needed this website and you were here to give me and our family hope.

I know first hand the members of Absolute Zero work very hard to expose the activites of convicted sex offenders and the internet activities of pedophiles world wide. Their efforts are applauded by parents and victims of abuse worldwide.
For too long the rights of convicted FELONS who commit disgusting sexual crimes have been more important than the rights of their victims.
It’s time we as a nation stand up against this injustice!

    From Wikipedia:
“Vigilante justice” is usually spurred on by the perception that criminal punishment is insufficient or nonexistent to the crime. Some people see their governments as ineffective in enforcing the law; thus, such individuals fulfill the like-minded wishes of the community.
The term vigilante is Spanish for “watchman” or “watcher,”

This is an awesome site, and I completely agree with Wasp Ohio… contact your government officials and demand that the laws be changed. Predators do not deserve rights! Predators give their rights when they brake the law and harm innocent children.
We need to create laws that make the consequences of breaking the law so harsh, predators won’t break the laws. By doing this we make the world a safer place for all of our children.
    God bless
