I'd like to have my own kidney removed so I can take it home and fry it up with some Chianti and Fava Beans!
Why didn't they just give her the goddamn placenta? It was hers wasn't it? The hospital should be glad to have one less item for the old bio hazard waste pile.
Well, I can see both sides of it. If a woman wants to eat her placenta, she's an adult and should be able to do so.

I think the concern is that organs are highly contaminated and can spread disease. Also, I think many view it as a social taboo (like cannibalism).

Even in Hawaii, where it is legal to release a placenta from a hospital, it has to be tested first so that it's not shown to be an HIV or hepatitis carrier.

I kept mine, but I'm not saying what I did with it ;).

I don't want to repeat all the ewwwwww, ewwwww, ewwwws above, so I'll just say: Oh. My. God.

I'm sorry not to be open-minded on this one, but don't vitamins and, like, soybeans and broccoli provide nutrients to nursing moms? Wouldn't sundried tomatoes be better with pasta?

Ditto, ditto, ditto to all the other ewws...and the gag, choke, hack, too.

Petulant Pixie, I do actually agree with you on this one, (not that I would ever try this crap)although I feel if she REALLY wanted it, she should have checked with the hospital prior to birth and if they said no, then she should have gone through a homebirth.
And I agree with you on the x-rays. The hospital took an EKG (I think) of my son's heart and they printed out a digital image of it to let him take home. He was thrilled!!!!! He showed everyone.
Oh, and once, my dad had passed a horrible kidney stone right before my wedding. I was in his kitchen eating lunch and he brought it downstairs to show me. I was mid-bite and he had a little glass jar an was jingling real close to me. I said "What, did another tooth fall out?" He said no, remember I passed that damn stone the other day? Here it is."
GAG! COUGH! CHOKE! HACK!

Well, it does belong to her, doesn't it? It is gross, but if she homebirthed, then she'd be able to do whatever she wanted with it, right?

You know what irritates me though? X-rays. They're pictures of MY body that *I* pay for, but they don't let me take them home! You have to get them released to another medical facility.

I have heard of people bringing gallstones home. And tonsils. I've known of a few kids who were given their tonsils in little jars to take home and bring to school for show and tell.

Ha! Slightly overcooking my steak gives me more fits than you do, Paul.

Now go back to reading Department of Labor regulations like a good boy. Do the senior partners know you're wasting time commenting on silly parenting blogs?

That's right, Paul. If you're not a Midwestern, white, formula feeding middle-to-upper class republican, we don't want you here.

Give it a rest.
