I'm sort of confused about one thing, though - obviously the kid didn't know any better when he was 8 (if Mommy tells you to do something, you do it - I mean, come on...) This went on for 10 years before he would have been considered responsible, and I would say that even by 2 years it would have been such a part of his life that he probably didn't know it was wrong until he was in his teens. At that point, what do you do? You're 15 and you know you shouldn't be doing something that you've been doing for 7 years, but how do you stop? Stopping gets Mommy in trouble. So you keep it up. Then you're 18... and you probably get the heck away from "Mommy" to live your own life, forgetting the horrid things she made you do. Or, maybe you go out into the real world and continue the ruse to get money - either way, I'm not entirely sure what they're going to charge the son with... you know?

She, on the other hand, should have her ovaries removed and her head examined.

I agree with the above post that it seems like a really hard scam to pull off, but I'm just glad they all got caught. I love when assholes get punished for the crap they try to pull.
What makes them think that they're so special that they don't have to work as hard as the rest of us!?

P.S. Paper Moon is one of my favorite movies. In fact I just watched it 2 days ago!

That's really something. See, when I worked in mental health, in order for a person to qualify for disability benefits because of mental retardation, they had to have an actual mental retardation diagnosis and the only way to get that was to have a bona fide IQ test done by a psychologist. Those are nearly impossible to fake, since there's more than just the intelligence aspect to it, there's the psychological part that you have to be a genius and know the loopholes in order to mess up. Then with an MR diagnosis, the kid would have special services in school, and it would be really hard for a kid to keep up the MR act all day every day. That's a really hard scam to pull off.
