Oscar 2007 Recap - Parent’s Edition

Posted February 26, 2007 at 8:49 am by Prescott

Best Motion Picture: “The Departed” — Oooh, I heard this movie was really good. I haven’t seen it.

Best Actor: Forest Whitaker, “The Last King of Scotland” — I love Forest Whitaker! I haven’t seen this one, either.

Lead Actress: Helen Mirren, “The Queen” — Did you know Helen Mirren has played both Queen Elizabeths in the past couple years? That’s all I know about this film since I didn’t have a chance to catch it in the theater.

Supporting Actor: Alan Arkin, “Little Miss Sunshine” — I am *so* going to watch this when they get the DVD at the library.

Supporting Actress: Jennifer Hudson, “Dreamgirls” — This one I wouldn’t have seen on a bet much less spend $30 for a babysitter.

Visual Effects: “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” — I SAW THIS ONE! I SAW THIS ONE!

Documentary Feature: “An Inconvenient Truth” — I need to Tivo this when it shows up on cable. Was it a sequel to Armageddon or something?

You got it 100% correct. Except I saw “Dead Man’s Chest” on DVD.

Too funny. I am the only SAHM with a toddler in my circle of girlfriends, so everyone else seems to be going to the movies at least once a month.
I also saw Dead Man’s Chest, mostly because it was an action-y movie (for my husband) and it had Johnny Depp in it (for me- oh gawd yes, for me!). We also saw Little Miss Sunshine, and LOVED it! We were so excited to see that Borat (not really an Oscar-type) will be out on DVD March something- so we will be in the delayed loop soon!

See, we OWN a VW bus that you have to double clutch to get into 3rd and we actually had to push start in on our wedding day- And I STILL didn’t see Little Miss Sunshine in the theater. Pathetic.

I have no excuse because my kids are older. Getting a sitter would require effort.

I saw the Pirates of the Caribbean because it was on ABC (free tv).

I really want to see Dreamgirls but knew that I would have to rent it-dh would NEVER watch that. We saw the Lion King show at DisneyWorld and I thought he would get up and leave after the first song.

Ha! Same here. I had to wait until Dh was at work one night to see Memoirs of a Geisha (I Loooooved it!) and Brokeback Mountain (I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Was it a great love story or was it causing such a stir because of the gay thing? Bottom line, gay or straight, Heath Ledger’s character was a BAD BOYFRIEND!!!)

I haven’t seen a movie, without the little mermaid (or one of the disney princesses in it), dora, or elmo in ohhhh….2 1/2 years….although, I love Shrek, and Shrek 2–does that count as adult entertainment?
