I feel like a big, fat MILF

Posted November 21, 2006 at 4:19 am by Jessica

Over the past year, I have gained a lot of weight. I am on the verge of going up a size and definitely in the throws of being uncomfortable in the clothes I do have. Although I could exercise a lot more and eat a little better than I do, truth be told, I don’t eat all that badly. I don’t exercise as much as I should, in fact, I don’t really exercise at all.

Next year, I have my 20-year high school reunion and a big society event to attend and I do not want to be fat. My friends tell me not to worry, everybody will probably be fat and I respond, “Yeah, but I don’t want to be one of them!” Throughout the years I have gone up and down, but I have never weighed as much as I do now, for as long as I have. Since 2003, after my second son was born, it has been an uphill battle. I would like to blame the c-section and the stress of have a very premature baby, but truth is, I lost all of my baby fat within a few weeks after surgery. I have struggled the past few years of trying to fine with it, to hating myself for it.

Recently, I had a routine blood draw to test my thyroid level. 12 years ago I had most of my thyroid removed because of a nasty growth. I have been taking synthroid, a synthetic thyroid hormone replacement medication since then. I haven’t been tested for the past few years because it was always the same. This time, my doctor said we had better check it. Turns out, I am now hypothyroid, meaning that my metabolism has slowed to an abnormal level. Increases and blood draws are in my future for the next year. I am hoping this is the reason for my sluggish body. I don’t need to be model thin, I just want to fit into my clothes again!

We brought up our exercise bike, parked it in front of the TV in our bedroom and I plan on taking this new information and making it work for me. I also need some good ab exercises. Any suggestions, besides old-fashion crunches? I hate crunches and I never feel like I’m in the right form.

So, any MILFS want to join me? I know it’s close to the holidays, but I thought I (we) could start with baby steps. Exercise and then cutting back on calories after the 1st. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

On a totally different note:

I have discovered the key to great hair color at home. Buy 2 or 3 shades and mix them together. You will get far more natural results. Use one color as your base color, something close to what you already have! It’s been many a trial and error for me and I think I have finally perfected it!

Okay, MILFS — power to ya!

Way to go Jessica! I just bought one of those exercise balls — for crunches. Makes it much easier! A reunion is a great goal. I’m heading to my 25th in 2007.

About 9 months after the birth of my son and not loosing one single pound, I found out that I was hypothyroid too. Not just hypothyroid. We’re talking TSH of 96 when it should have been between 3 to 5. Got on Synthroid in June and got it leveled out. I’m pregnant again now, but I’m entering my 3rd trimester next week and I’ve only gained 7 pounds. I can’t wait to have this baby to see if the baby weight will actually go away this time. Hopefully the Synthroid will help you a lot.

    Jessica,
I am glad they found the problem. I will join you! I have already been changing my eating and working out all the time and have lost 22lbs since June 1. But this last 8 lbs are not coming off so I need to be rejuvinated ( after I come back from this cruise). Chances are I will have more than 8 lbs to lose after Thanksgiving!

That’s IT, I’m getting my thyroid checked. I weigh now more than when my youngest was 9 months old and it’s depressing!

I’m with you, sis, I don’t want to be model-thin, I just want to look good in my nice clothes.. I want to be fit and not exhausted all the time.

    Count me in!

I hear you too. I love being active, but I love eating - a little too much. It’s frustrating when I find my clothes feeling a bit tight - I don’t want to buy new ones; I just want to look good and feel good in the ones I already own!

And ditto Amy on the exercise ball. Love it - great way to do crunches, as well as squats (lean against a wall with the ball between your back and the wall) and pushups (roll forward on the ball until it rests under your thighs/knees/shins).

I’ve already started. Thyroid disease runs in my family and, though I’ve been thin all of my life, it wasn’t until I was 36 that things started to get a little crazy in the metabolism department. I’ve got 10 pounds I’d like to shed and my husband is working with me. I’ve hired a trainer and I’m back to running sprints. I wish all of us the best of luck.

I am trying to lose the weight as well. I use the ball for the crunches and squats. Another core excercise I was shown is to lay on your tummy and pick up your arms and legs as high as you can. Man, my abs are terribly upset afterwards, but it is worth it. You hold in the up position for 20 to 30 seconds and start with 2-3 reps. I am now up to 6 or 7 reps and have definitely started seeing the difference. My friend says you can do the same thing with the ball under your tummy for added leverage, but you need a buddy to make sure you don’t roll off and hurt yourself. There is also a website that offers small monthly fees for your own home workout through streaming content. I’m trying to find the name so I can sign-up.
