We have plenty of reservists. We don't need a draft people! It's just a political ploy to get people even more angry about the war.

The last time it was put before Congress to vote on ( in 2003 -- also brought forth by Rangel), our dear Rangel voted against the draft.

Politics. Politics. Politics.

Don't think that if we had a draft there wouldn't be a way for the kids of wealthy politicians to escape the front lines. They always have before. And no one's suggested drafting women at age 18, though even if they did you know you'd never see the Bush twins in fatigues. I've got three sons and one is about to be 18. Another one almost 17. We wouldn't have to talk about draft if we hadn't gone to war unprepared and based on bad intelligence. Have we learned NOTHING from Vietnam?

You bet me to the punch! I was going to write about the same thing. What scares me about this is selfish and personal. My son is almost 15! Funny thing too - he wants to make the draft applicable to those between 18 and 42. 42? Well I'll be 43 in February!

Oh, he and a few other dems have been proposing that for years. Before they declared it a deterrent for wars, they said it would be horrible publicity for republicans, especially if it happened now.

He's insane, but I have a feeling some people are gonna support him in theory, like Cindy Sheehan. I'll bet she's one that's on board with that reverse psychology.

Although, I'm not sure if I don't agree with having everyone serve, even in community service (or the military) for a year or so, as a way of giving back. Even in admin jobs, it sure would alleviate some of the strain on our reservists and God knows there are people in our country that are in need of extra services. I might be able to get behind that in theory.
