antoniac said: Why do you object to warnings on formula cans? There are warnings on wine bottles saying that pregnant women shouldn’t drink alcohol. Those warnings are there for stupid people who cannot understand the concept of moderation.

...because infant formula is not akin to alcohol and mothers who choose to use infant formula are NOT stupid. Personal opinion is not an excuse to politicize a safe alternative. Mother's need to worry about their own kids. This is America and the gov't should not be judging a mother or indicating that she's stupid if and when she chooses a safe alternative to breast feeding. That's stupid.

What? Are women not allowed to choose not to breastfeed? Do they need to be scolded and punished for choose a SAFE alternative? Just because breastfeeding mother's would like society to do so, doesn't make it right.

I realize this is old, but still.

Why do you object to warnings on formula cans? There are warnings on wine bottles saying that pregnant women shouldn't drink alcohol. Those warnings are there for stupid people who cannot understand the concept of moderation. Warnings on formula would serve the same purpose - trying to protect babies from people who are too uneducated/lack enough basic common sense to understand that yes, all things being equal, breastfeeding is better for babies. Of course all things are not equal, so formula is better for some people. We live in a world where not everything that comes with a health warning is necessarily bad, just accept it.

Ahhh, the above poster has fallen prey to the breastfeeding nazis.

Nothing more disgusting than a kid old enough to play and speak, coming up to mom and asking for a teat to be hung in his or her mouth. Anything past 6 months breastfeeding in a modern society is indulgent for the mother. It simply reinforces her misguided notion that she and she alone is capable of proper child-rearing. The modern stay at home mom thinks she is a goddess, and is the modern equivalent of the prairie families a'la Laura Ingalls, but in reality it is no longer required in most cases. you're not working the farm and chopping wood to make dinner. You're taking the kids to Gymboree and hob nobbing with the other elitists and patting each other on the back, and complaining that the husband you're overworking "just isn't doing it for you anymore".

obviousely whoever wrote this article has done no research on the risks of formula feeding, i am assuming that this is propaganda from the formula companies, noone could be as ignorant as to think formula feeding is a safe alternative to breastmilk.
