Maybe because we hear them so often. And we hear them so often, because this is a HUGE country and there are alot of people out there who never dealt with their own problems leftover from their abusive childhoods. Until our lawmakers begin REALLY punishing child abusers/sex offenders etc. and the general public realizes there is a big penalty attached to harming an innocent child, it wont stop. The very scariest part of this is that if you read about child sex offenders and child abusers, in general, rehabilitation is difficult, if not almost impossible. I have 3 little grandsons and I am sure Ill have more grandchildren. I thought I had just about lived thru it all raising my own 4 kids, but grandchildren are completely out of my realm of control, so I have to hope and pray to God that He keeps them safe from the freaks out there. They are such tiny, defensless human beings and how someone, ANYONE, could harm a child, like in those two cases you mentioned, I will never understand. America needs to step up, open their eyes, take a chance and start protecting these little victims who have no voice. Can you imagine what must have been going through that little boys head? <em>'Why is mommy letting this man hurt me? What did I do that was so wrong? Doesn't she love me?'</em>. Therefore, no one looks anymore. It's like car alarms, does anyone care if it goes off? NO. Well, sad but true, but it's almost the same with child abuse. Not saying that no one cares if kids are abused, but you have good parents who spank who are afraid to speak out when they see someone abusing kids, in fear that other's will find out they spank their kids and they don't want to be painted with the same "child abuser" brush. As parents, we all raise our children in a way that is offensive to someone else ... too strict/not strict enough, timeouts/no timeouts, spanking/no spanking, ruling parent/reasoning parent ... and therefore, we are reluctant to point the fingers at other until it's too late and we read stories like these.
